DRESS CODE/ POLICY

Dress Code In order to promote a safe and supportive learning environment and to enhance safety, maintain order, and promote a positive discipline atmosphere, Dayspring Academy has adopted the following uniform policy for grades K-12. This policy has been in effect since August 1, 2000 and has subsequently been reauthorized annually.

Parents may choose to opt-out of this policy only for religious purposes or by reason of a learner's disability.

Approved Elementary School Uniform Attire

All elementary school learners are required to wear a school uniform every day, except on designated dress down days. All should fit modestly; low cut and tight fitting clothing are not allowed. Tops must cover the midriff area.

Refer to Dress Code for Dress Down Days for approved dress down day attire.

Bottoms:

• Only navy blue or khaki pants, capris, , , , or jumpers (skirts, shorts, skorts, and jumpers must be knee length). Knee length is not shorter than 2 inches above the knee. • Bottoms must be uniform with a school "Uniform" label inside. • Shorts and pants must be secured with a .

Tops/:

• Short or long sleeve polo style MUST be white, light yellow, navy blue, or light blue ONLY and MUST have a collar. • No logos or emblems are permitted, with the exception of the Dayspring Academy logo. • Long or short sleeve WHITE or NAVY only shirts may be worn under a 3 button . • Jackets, , and sweatshirts must be navy or white; no logos or emblems are permitted, with the exception of the Dayspring Academy logo.

Other Items:

• Girls may wear only uniform color or under shorts, skirts, skorts, and jumpers. • must be solid uniform color. • Closed toe and closed heel and only; no flip-flops, heels, or allowed.

Approved Uniform Attire

Grades 6-8

All learners grades 6-8 are required to wear a school uniform every day except on designated dress down days. All clothing should fit modestly; tight fitting clothing is not allowed. Tops must cover the midriff area. PLEASE NOTE: Learners wearing inappropriate clothing will be required to change into uniform clothing provided by the secondary school front office. After the first offense, each time the learner wears inappropriate clothing, the learner's parent/guardian will be required to bring a change of clothing to the secondary school.

• Short or long sleeve polo shirts MUST be white, light blue, red, or navy only. • No logos or emblems of any kind are permitted, with the exception of the Dayspring Academy logo. • Only white, navy or red long or short sleeve may be worn under the polo shirt. • Tops must cover the midriff area, should not be low-cut or tight fitting, and should fit modestly. • Jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts must be solid navy, light blue, red, or white; no logos or emblems are permitted, with the exception of the Dayspring Academy logo. • Friday Only: Any Dayspring event shirts or jackets (i.e., dance team jackets, OM sweatshirts, production t-shirts) can be worn with a uniform bottom.

Other Items:

• Closed toe and closed heel shoes and sneakers only; no flip-flops or sandals allowed. • Girls may wear only solid uniform color tights (navy, light blue, white, red) under shorts, skirts, skorts, and jumpers. • Learners may wear only solid uniform color socks (navy, light blue, white, red).

Grades 9 - 12

All clothing should fit modestly. Low cut , , and tight fitting clothing are not allowed; tops must cover the midriff area. bottoms of any color, including jeggings, are not allowed.

PLEASE NOTE: If a learner receives 3 dress infraction warnings, he/she will be required to wear a school uniform every day for the remainder of the school year.

MONDAY ONLY: Uniform day; same as grades 6 - 8 above, however, can wear hunter green polo.

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY ONLY: dress attire as follows:

Tops: • Business casual collared shirts, blouses, and dresses to the knee. • No t-shirts of any kind will be permitted. Bottoms: • Business casual dress is defined as uniform style khaki or similar dress pants/slacks (loose fitting garment to the ankle) and loose fitting uniform style dress shorts to the knee. • No jeggings, leggings, , , athletic shorts, etc. FRIDAY ONLY: • Dayspring Academy event shirts or jackets (i.e., dance team jackets, OM sweatshirts, production t-shirts) can be worn with blue (no holes, rips, or tears). • Jeans must be blue; no colored jeans or jean shorts will be allowed. • No jean shorts or flip flops.

Other Items: • Girls may not wear high heel shoes. Shoes can have a heel of no more than 2 inches.

DRESS DOWN DAYS

Dress Down Days Coupons Elementary School Elementary learners can pay $1 the day of the dress down or can purchase the semester dress down coupons in advance via our electronic payment system at a cost of $5 per semester. If the learner chooses to dress down on a dress down day, they must have the coupon or $1 on the dress down day or they will be required to change into a school uniform.

Secondary School Secondary school learners must purchase semester dress down coupons in advance via our electronic payment system at a cost of $5 per semester. If they choose to dress down on a dress down day and they do not have their coupon, they will be required to change into a school uniform.

Dress Code for Dress Day Days (Elementary and Secondary School) • The following tops/bottoms are NOT allowed: o Tops with spaghetti straps (unless covered by another shirt, or ) o Tank tops (unless covered by another shirt, jacket or sweater) o Camis (unless covered by another shirt, jacket or sweater) o (unless covered by a jacket or sweater) o Strapless tops o See-through tops o Tops with slits or lace on the shoulders, sleeves or back o Shirts with offensive writing and/or images o Jeans, pants, skirts, skorts, and shorts with holes o Jean shorts, jeggings or leggings o Clothing with inappropriate logos or graphics • Open toe and open heel shoes, flip flops, or shoes with heels higher than 1 inch - Elementary only. • Secondary school learners ONLY can wear flip flops and sandals (ONLY on Dress Down days) • All clothing should fit modestly. Low cut blouses, dresses, or tight fitting clothing are not allowed. Tops must cover the midriff area. • Shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, and dresses must be knee length (knee length is not shorter than 2 inches above the knee)
