Greater Shepparton is located in the , 190 km north of . Population growth in Greater Shepparton has been modest since 2002 and is projected to increase somewhat to 2022 but remain below average. Children under 15 are overrepresented while adults aged 25-44 are underrepresented. The percentage of population of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin is the third highest in the state, at 4.2%. Nearly 11% of the population was born in a non-English speaking country and around 13% speak a language other than English at home, most commonly Italian and Arabic. Year 9 educational attainment is below average, as is the percentage of the population who completed year 12 or have a higher education degree.
