Greyhounds must not have changed trainer in 90 days or less prior to the close of nominations. Greyhounds that have commenced racing under 90 days and have only lodged one kennel return are exempted. 5. A greyhound must not be under any order of prohibition under the rules of Greyhound Racing Victoria at the time of nomination that will not allow it to compete at the club hosting The 2014 Great Chase semi finals and grand final.6. The heats are open to the best greyhounds nominated plus reserves. 7. The number of greyhounds progressing to the semi finals differs at each track. 3 greyhounds plus 1 reserve will progress from: Sandown, Healesville, Horsham and Warrnambool. 4 greyhounds plus 1 reserve will progress from: Shepparton, Ballarat, Bendigo, Cranbourne and Sale. 5 greyhounds plus 1 reserve will progress from: Geelong and The Meadows. 6 greyhounds plus 1 reserve will progress from: Warragul. There will then be a ‘ballot’ for the reserve positions. Eligibility to compete in Semi Finals subject to GRV Rule LR33. 8. The Winners and fastest seconds from 6 Semi Finals will progress to the Grand Final. 9. Upon entering this event, trainers will make themselves and their greyhound available for any reasonable promotional opportunities relating to this event at Greyhound Racing Victoria’s request. This may include visiting community groups at their facility as well as media and photo opportunities as they arise. 10. Greyhound Racing Victoria reserves the right to alter and amend conditions and prize money for The 2014 Great Chase. Any changes to these terms and conditions will be published on www.grv.org.au. 11. Case study 3: Shepparton, Victoria Prepared by Institute for the Study of Social Change Researcher Nyree Pisanu Shepparton is a region in Victoria, Australia with a total population of 129,971 in 2016 (ABS, 2019). The Shepparton region includes three local government areas, including Greater Shepparton, Campaspe and Moira. In 2016, the regional city of Shepparton-Mooroopna had a population of 46,194. The Greater City of Shepparton had a population of 65,078 in 2018, with an average growth rate of 1.14% since 2011. The median age in Shepparton is 42.2 and the unemployment rate is 5.7%. In 2016, There were more births than deaths (natural increase= 557) and in-migration exceeded out- migration (net migration = 467). Therefore, natural increase is driving Shepparton’s population growth (54%). Economic profile The Shepparton region is located around 180kms north of Melbourne (Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, 2016). The region is known as the Shepparton Irrigation Region as it is located on the banks of the Goulburn river, making it an ideal environment for food production (Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, 2016). Shepparton’s top three agricultural commodities are sheep, dairy and chickens (ABS, 2019). The region is at the heart of the ‘food bowl of Australia’, also producing fruit and vegetables. The region also processes fruit, vegetables and dairy through large processing facilities for both consumption and export (Regional Development Victoria, 2015).

    PARLIAMENT OF VICTORIA Environment and Planning Standing Committee – Legislative Assembly MEDIA RELEASE Shepparton and Wangaratta to host climate change hearings The parliamentary inquiry into tackling climate change in Victorian communities continues next week with public hearings and site visits in Shepparton and Wangaratta on 12 and 13 February. The Legislative Assembly’s Environment and Planning Committee will meet with local councils, sustainability groups and community organisations to discuss regional responses to climate change and what the government can do to help communities take action. “We know that regional communities are often highly innovative and active when it comes to sustainability, waste management and recycling, agroforestry and renewable energy projects,” said Committee Chair Darren Cheeseman. “We want to hear from members of the Shepparton and Wangaratta communities, learn more about what they’re doing to mitigate climate change and understand how the government can support them,” he said. The Shepparton hearing on 12 February is at the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, 23 Alexandra Street, Mooroopna from 10:30 am to 1:15 pm. The Committee will then visit the Violet Town Community Forest and meet with local sustainability groups at the Violet Town Community Complex. The Wangaratta hearing on 13 February is at Wangaratta Regional Study Centre, GoTafe and Charles Sturt University, 218 Tone Road, Wangaratta from 9:30 am to 12:15 pm. A site visit with Totally Renewable Yackandandah to discuss the group’s community energy projects will follow. Appearing before the Committee in Shepparton will be several local councils, the North East Region Sustainability Alliance (NERSA) and Benalla Sustainable Future Group.

    What reaction times reveal about listener groups: L1 Aboriginal English and Standard Australian English responses to a prelateral merger-in-progress Deborah Loakes, Janet Fletcher, John Hajek and Joshua Clothier School of Languages and Linguistics, The University of Melbourne Correspondence: Deborah Loakes, [email protected] In Australian English, a sound change is in progress where /el/->/æl/. This is restricted, and occurs: 1. Geographically - there is an isogloss in the southern-most region of south-east Australia, and; 2. Diachronically - while not solely related to speaker age, previous research (Loakes et al., 2014) has shown that older speakers are more likely to maintain an /el-/æl/ distinction. Previously, we have analysed this merger as a consequence of (mis)perception, where /el/->[ɛl]->/æl/. Our early work has shown that in the Standard Australian English speaking community where this sound change is present, production and perception are correlated but not aligned (Loakes et al. 2014). In production, variability pre-laterally is extremely high. Some speakers have completely merged vowels in words such as hell-Hal, while others have very open [ɛl]-like productions of /el/ sequences. There is also a marked difference between older and younger speakers, with younger speakers having expanded vowel spaces in the F1 dimension (see also Cox 2006). In places where this prelateral merger occurs there is variation within the community, and also with the way the merger presents.
