Valencia en plena Guerra Civil. María y Pepe deciden casarse por la iglesia y en privado, dadas las circunstancias políticas y sociales. Tras casarse Pepe parte al frente y María se queda en casa. Días después de la boda, el cura que los casó le pide refugio a María, ya que está siendo buscado por militantes comunistas. María lo acoge y esconde en su casa durante un año y un día. Acaba la guerra y Pepe es encarcelado. María decide pedir ayuda al cura para sacar a su marido de la prisión, pero este se niega alegando que Pepe es un "rojo".

Valencia in the middle of the Civil War. María and Pepe decide to get married in a church in a private ceremony in view of the political and social circumstances. After they get married Pepe leaves for the front and María stays at home. Days after the wedding, the priest who married them asks María for shelter as the communist militants are looking for him. María takes him in and hides him in her house for a year and a day. When the war ends Pepe is imprisoned and María decides to ask the priest for help to get her husband out of prison but he refuses claiming that Pepe is a “red”.
