Company Profile BIBIONE 5 AQUAE. A NEW EMOTION IN A WELL-LOVED, PROTECTED SETTING. Bibione 5 Aquae, namely the waters of the river, sea, lagoon, canals and spas which flow together where vitality, ecology and wellness reign in one of the most fascinating natural environments with a rich biodiversity of the Northern Adriatic Sea. A microcosm of water and light, reed beds and picturesque thatched farm houses (casoni), herons and pink flamingos on the wing, at a relaxed pace, but just a short distance from the fun and excitement of the streets in the centre of Bibione and its beach with fine, golden sand which fits perfectly into the natural habitat because the sand originates exclusively in the Dolomites and is carried down to the sea by the Tagliamento river. Countryside and emotions to be experienced along the ever-growing number of cycling and foot paths or by boat, canoe and kayak or on horseback, in harmony with an unspoilt environment that reflects the modern philosophy of slow, intelligent and eco-friendly tourism. While, at the same time, enjoying a strong tradition in food and wine with ties to the inland areas of Bibione, as well, with its cultural heritage which is reflected in ancient Rome and nearby Venice. Bibione 5 Aquae is a project that took pride of place when first presented at the International show Aquae Venezia 2015, the event dedicated to water and its forms of life, sponsored by Expo Milano 2015, which was continued in order to transmit the emotions of a very special environment and spread the values of eco-friendly tourism in tune with the philosophy of safeguarding the environment which led to Bibione, in 2002, becoming the number one tourist hub in Europe and obtaining EMAS environmental certification. BIBIONE: HAPPY TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR EVERY WISH WITH A HOST OF FRESH IDEAS Bibione is a resort that never loses its charm and is hard to absorb in the space of just one holiday. The territory is the result of a magical encounter between the salt waters of the Adriatic sea and the fresh waters of the Tagliamento river and whose name is derived from the ancient Roman “Insulae Bibioni” indicating the islands connected to the lagoon by a narrow strip of land. Bibione was linked in the past to nearby Venice, then to the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy while its more recent history started in the 1950s when it opened up to tourism with the distinct mark of quality and respect for nature. Emotions and one-of-a-kind experiences, for everyone. The special geographic, environmental and tourist characteristics of Bibione make it both unique and captivating, capable of meeting everybody’s needs: from those who want relaxation and fun to those who want to get fit and healthy again, to those who want to immerse themselves in unspoilt nature or explore the historical remains inland. In Bibione, your personal horizons are widened, your whims are pandered to, the quality of your life is enhanced: whatever the season or your age, with a wide range of opportunities that are added to and renewed every year. Top quality tourism. The Associazione Bibionese Albergatori - ABA – (Bibione Hoteliers’ Association) in Bibione has always been among the top performers in the tourist accommodation trade and, since 2014, it has been the first association to offer an optional insurance policy to guarantee hotel guests peace of mind during their stay with protection against unexpected problems. In addition they can also choose between different Club di Prodotto (Product Clubs) aimed at specific types of tourists: from families to mountain bike, walking or golf enthusiasts to animal lovers and anyone who wants to access treatment at the Spa in Bibione. Naturally welcoming and dynamic. Bibione has got something for everyone and dedicates a special space to every single person: its golden beaches which are easy to access, equipped with the most up-to-date facilities and services, with free entertainment activities and certified bathing waters with a gently sloping seabed that is ideal for children and the elderly. Thanks to Sabbiodotto, a conceptually innovative project, but in keeping with the natural surroundings, the beach in Bibione will be protected from erosion by the sea, thus safeguarding one of the main tourist and naturalistic treasures of this resort: the “sabbia doc” (sand with controlled designation of origin), that is, 100% locally sourced. The network of cycling paths is being gradually extended into the beach and natural area with over 50 km of totally safe cycling which means you can discover Bibione, the 5 Acque and the inland area, thanks also to a new section that goes from Piazzale Zenith as far as the spiaggia del Faro (lighthouse beach) at the mouth of the Tagliamento river, one of the symbols of this resort surrounded by a wonderful natural reserve. The sporting facilities are also being renewed in Bibione which, in addition to proposing lots of activities on the beach and on the sea, from beach volley ball to beach tennis, from swimming to sailing, from windsurf to kayaking, from Nordic walking to horse-riding, with entertainers for adults and children, also offers the opportunity to explore the seabed at Bibione, another unspoilt, protected environment with guided scuba diving expeditions. Health and wellbeing at the Bibione Thermae. The offering of the Bibione Thermae (Bibione spa) is also constantly evolving where the spa waters that well up not far from the beach, at a temperature of 50° C, are used for hydrotherapy treatment which is certified by the Ministry of Health, as well as mud therapy, hydro- kinesitherapy, deep massage, and rehabilitation procedures for all ages: above all for children for whom special treatments are reserved. The treatments of the Bibione Thermae are subsidised by the Italian National Health Service and also offer European Community citizens the opportunity to access reimbursements for medical expenses in line with European Directive 24/2011. There is also a SPA and a Wellness centre which offer wellness, beauty and physical fitness treatments: from saunas, to Turkish baths, sensations showers and massages, as well as the indoor pool by the beach. Lots to discover and enjoy. In step with the new shopping, fashion, and food and drink trends, there are shops, restaurants and bars where you can taste local traditional cooking or enjoy a sophisticated, exhilarating evening out. Alongside this, there is an irresistible offer dedicated to fun for all ages with the educational-play parks, including the memorable Luna Park Adriatico which is considered one of the best in Italy. The cultural offering inland is also very comprehensive from the Roman and medieval archaeological artefacts of Concordia Sagittaria, to the little churches, villas and abbeys along the Strada del Vino (Wine Road), to the Renaissance buildings of Portogruaro, the hamlet of Cordovado, one of the most beautiful in Italy, and the Palio Storico (historic horse race) which is always held on the first Sunday in September. THE BEACH OF BIBIONE: PURE NATURE FROM THE DOLOMITES TO THE ADRIATIC SEA The beach of Bibione, 8 km long and 200 km wide, with its soft and fine sand coming from the River Tagliamento, is able to satisfy all touristic needs. It offers the possibility of swimming in clear waters or relaxing with a book in front of the sea, of walking on the beach or practicing different sports. You can also enjoy funny activities with your children or take part in fitness courses and Latin dance lessons to meet new friends. Every entertainment activity is free in Bibione. Always new services and facilities Together with traditional beach services, Bibione was the first Italian beach resort to create a no- smoking area: from the sea line to the first row of sun-umbrellas, smoking is forbidden. The smoking ban covers all 8 km of beach. This action has been taken especially for children, who can play on cleaner sand and breathe pure and healthy air. That´s not all! Bibione was the first seaside resort with a Customer Service, able to give all necessary information about the incoming activities and events, in order to meet any request and to provide a professional and kind service to our tourists. Since the last season, we have developed an SMS service for assistance under the sun-umbrella. The tourist can simply send an SMS to the following number + 39 366.92.36.115 indicating the number of the sun-umbrella and the row, as well as the letter of the area; someone in charge of the Customer Service will promptly reply and provide requested assistance. Along the beach, tourists can use the Service Areas, 600 m2 of new areas, easy to reach also for disabled people, equipped with cabins, showers, toilettes, ticket and information offices, a nursery and six first aid stations to operate directly on the beach, six defibrillators, nursing staff, a dermatologist, 28 sea lifeguards points with duly qualified mariners for rescue service and assistance, with certifications to practise Bls (Basic Life Support) and Blsd (Basic Life Support Defribrillation). This competent and fast healthcare service is available from May to September. Moreover, you can always connect your smartphone, tablet or laptop under the sun-umbrella thanks to the Wi-Fi service Bibione Spiaggia. Pluto beach: a four-legged beach Bibione is happy to welcome your four-legged friends. On the Pluto Beach they will find sun- umbrellas with sunbeds, bowls and a leash. Dogs are allowed to bath in the sea in front of their dedicated beach and they have also their own showers. You can find an agility-dog area with free courses and a vet assistance service.

The surface trans- port in the area has been investigated by evaluating the Finite-Size Lyapunov Exponents (FSLE) on the current field detected by the High Frequency (HF) coastal radar network. FSLE allow to estimate Lagrangian Coherent Structures (LCSs), which provide information on the transport patterns associated with the flow and identify regions characterized by different dynamics. This work includes the development and calibration of the FSLE evaluation algorithm ap- plied for the first time to the specific Adriatic area considered. The FSLE analysis during calm wind reveals an attractive LCS crossing the GoT entrance, marking the convergence between the Northern Adriatic and the outflowing gulf waters. During Bora episodes this attractive LCS is displaced westward with respect to the calm wind case, indicating that Bora drives an extended coherent outflow from the GoT. On the other hand, Sirocco wind piles up the water along the northern end of the basin and induces the inflow of Adriatic waters in the GoT.

  • Present Relative Sea Level Rise in the Northern Adriatic Coastal Area
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Scientific Open-access Literature Archive and Repository Present Relative Sea Level Rise in the Northern Adriatic Coastal Area L. Carbognin1, P. Teatini1, L. Tosi1, T. Strozzi2, A. Tomasin1 1, Institute of Marine Sciences, CNR, Venezia, Italy 2, GAMMA Remote Sensing Research and Consulting AG, Gumligen,¨ Switzerland [email protected] Abstract Relative sea level rise (RSLR), that has been occurred along the entire coastal areas of the Northern Adriatic Sea, includes land subsidence, both natural and man- induced, and eustacy. Their combined effect has produced relative ground settle- ments ranging from centimetres to meters. RSLR represents one of the geologic haz- ards threatening the low-lying coast. Recent progresses made in understanding these two processes are presented. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) interferometry has significantly improved the knowledge of actual land subsidence. In particular, com- prehensive maps of the vertical displacements occurred over the period 1992-2009 in the region between Venice and Ravenna reveal a significant spatial variability, rang- ing from a slight 1 to 2 mm·yr−1 uplift, to a serious subsidence of more than 15 mm·yr−1. The availability of tide gauge data in Trieste, Venice, and Ravenna allows accurate assessment and meaningful observations on sea level change. The period 1896-2006 is characterized by an average rise of 1.2±0.1 mm·yr−1. The analyses here performed show that a time series at least 50 yr long must be used to obtain sta- tistically significant results and reliable trend, due to the 7-8 year pseudo-cyclicity, recorded at many Mediterranean coastal stations.
