BIBIONE: HAPPY TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR EVERY WISH WITH A HOST OF FRESH IDEAS

Bibione is a resort that never loses its charm and is hard to absorb in the space of just one holiday. The territory is the result of a magical encounter between the salt waters of the Adriatic sea and the fresh waters of the Tagliamento river and whose name is derived from the ancient Roman “Insulae Bibioni” indicating the islands connected to the lagoon by a narrow strip of land. Bibione was linked in the past to nearby Venice, then to the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of while its more recent history started in the 1950s when it opened up to tourism with the distinct mark of quality and respect for nature.

Emotions and one-of-a-kind experiences, for everyone.

The special geographic, environmental and tourist characteristics of Bibione make it both unique and captivating, capable of meeting everybody’s needs: from those who want relaxation and fun to those who want to get fit and healthy again, to those who want to immerse themselves in unspoilt nature or explore the historical remains inland. Bibione has got something for everyone and dedicates a special space to every single person: its golden beaches which are easy to access, equipped with the most up-to-date facilities and services, with free entertainment activities and certified bathing waters with a gently sloping seabed that is ideal for children and the elderly. Thanks to Sabbiodotto, a conceptually innovative project, but in keeping with the natural surroundings, the beach in Bibione will be protected from erosion by the sea, thus safeguarding one of the main tourist and naturalistic treasures of this resort: the “sabbia doc” (sand with controlled designation of origin), that is, 100% locally sourced.

The network of cycling paths is being gradually extended into the beach and natural area with over 50 km of totally safe cycling which means you can discover Bibione, the 5 Acque and the inland area, thanks also to a new section that goes from Piazzale Zenith as far as the spiaggia del Faro (lighthouse beach) at the mouth of the Tagliamento river, one of the symbols of this resort surrounded by a wonderful natural reserve.

The sporting facilities are also being renewed in Bibione which, in addition to proposing lots of activities on the beach and on the sea, from beach volley ball to beach tennis, from swimming to sailing, from windsurf to kayaking, from Nordic walking to horse-riding, with entertainers for adults and children, also offers the opportunity to explore the seabed at Bibione, another unspoilt, protected environment with guided scuba diving expeditions.

The treatments of the Bibione Thermae are subsidised by the Italian National Health Service and also offer European Community citizens the opportunity to access reimbursements for medical expenses in line with European Directive 24/2011. The cultural offering inland is also very comprehensive from the Roman and medieval archaeological artefacts of Concordia Sagittaria, to the little churches, villas and abbeys along the Strada del Vino (Wine Road), to the Renaissance buildings of Portogruaro, the hamlet of Cordovado, one of the most beautiful in Italy, and the Palio Storico (historic horse race) which is always held on the first Sunday in September.

The smoking ban covers all 8 km of beach. This action has been taken especially for children, who can play on cleaner sand and breathe pure and healthy air.

Bibione was the first seaside resort with a Customer Service, able to give all necessary information about the incoming activities and events, in order to meet any request and to provide a professional and kind service to our tourists. Since the last season, we have developed an SMS service for assistance under the sun-umbrella. The tourist can simply send an SMS to the following number + 39 366.92.36.115 indicating the number of the sun-umbrella and the row, as well as the letter of the area; someone in charge of the Customer Service will promptly reply and provide requested assistance.

THE LAGOON ENVIRONMENT OF BIBIONE: A WORLD WAITING TO BE EXPLORED

Surrounded by the 5 Aquae, Bibione is a veritable “treasure island” from a nature point of view to be explored in a leisurely, eco-friendly way: on foot, by bike, on horseback, by canoe or boat.

Valgrande: a world apart The Valgrande area is scientifically defined as a fishing valley: but in reality it is a world apart, inhabited by hundreds of birds, wild horses, centenary autochthonous holm-oak woods and black Austrian pinewoods, where you can even admire the rests of an ancient Roman villa. It can only be visited by guided tour, but all you have to do is go through the gate and you find yourself in an extraordinary world: the view opens up, space extends on all sides and the lagoon appears in all its glory. The lagoon: this natural environment on the border between the earth, the water and the sky. You will be able to see this environment on your right among the thick bushes when you get to Bibione, slowly unveiling its fascinating beauty.

A bird-watching paradise The Valgrande area, which has a 360 hectare surface and has been a private property for ages, hosts flowers of noteworthy botanical relevance, as the primula farinosa (the bird’s eye primrose) and the marsh gentian, as well as rare fauna species, as the Hermann’s tortoise. Furthermore the valleys represent an important area for the reproduction and rest of a lot of species of migratory birds (twelfth wetland in Italy concerning the number of important aquatic birds in winter). Because of this motive it is of fundamental importance for the National ecosystem.

Casoni (typical fishermen huts), romantic getaways During your visit to the valleys you will also have the opportunity to admire the so called “casoni”, ancient shelters used by fishers when, due to their job, they were forced to stay away from home for many days. During the centuries the building techniques have always been the same, using wooden poles, canes, straw and wicker, creating an open space with a rectangular plan and a pyramidal roof with a central fire place. You can see these “casoni” nowadays on the small lagoon islands and, hidden among the cane thickets, they look like silent guardians of an evocative and absolutely unique environment.

SPORT IN BIBIONE: AN AMAZING OPEN AIR GYM

Bibione is the ideal place for anyone who likes doing sport even when on holiday, from life outdoors to physical fitness, as well as anyone who wants to have a go at fitness activities for the first time with a made-to-measure activity.

Fun-packed energy for everyone Beach-volley, beach-tennis and beach-soccer lovers will not have to worry about finding available courts. You will find nets and goal posts in many different parts of the beach. For those who do not want to make a lot of effort, there is the bowls game, the most ancient beach game for any age.

Fishing fans can try their hand at long-casting, a type of fishing from the beach using rods that can cast the bait and the sinker many metres from the shore.

Between the wind and the waves The seashore itself sets the border to the sea, that natural environment where the passion for the waves, the wind and the seabed takes the stage. Sea breeze lovers cannot miss the wind-surf experience or the silent sailing on a sailing boat. Anyone, however, looking for a new challenge can set off in a kayak or a canoe to explore the natural beauty of the Bibione Lagoon or try the thrill of water skiing and paraflying, or even try a scuba dive to the rocky outcrops called “tegnue” by the local fishermen, natural habitats for fish and shellfish.

Natural energy If you prefer keeping your feet on the ground, there’s nothing better than jogging and Nordic walking on the beach in Bibione which will meet with approval from even hardened long distance walkers with its 8 km stretch; why not go early in the morning when the only sounds are your own breathing, the beat of your heart and the waves breaking. Alternatively, you can go horse riding along the Tagliamento river surrounded by nature.

An enchanting oasis with 18 holes Not far from Bibione, the Golf Club Lignano is considered one of Italy’s most beautiful golf courses, thanks to its natural and technical features. The 18-hole course (par 72), which is qualified to organize National tournaments, extends over 6.028 metres surrounded by the green and offers a big driving range with nine covered bays. The lakes, the bunkers, the “Arizona” area and the fairways movement make every hole special and create a varying and fascinating game. The course of the Golf Club is demanding and technical for top players but it also adapts very well to less experienced players. The Club House boasts a restaurant, a bar, a reading room and a bridge table to relax after having played golf. Thanks to the Golf Product Card , tourists will take advantage of reductions and discounts, ranging from golf course entry to individual, group as well as family lessons.
