To be Eligible for Enrollment in the Prekindergarten Program

1. Limited Language To enroll as Limited Language Proficient, the child must be present and administered a test to establish if he/she can speak and comprehend the English Language.

2. Limited Income To enroll on criteria of family income use the following chart:

Parents/guardians wishing to enroll their children based upon family income must bring a current month’s payroll check stub or food stamp card. If self-employed, a copy of their previous year income tax form is required.

3. Homeless (defined by 42 U.S.C., Section 11302)

To enroll as homeless the criteria includes, an individual who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and complies with the income eligibility requirements otherwise applicable to the program.

4. Military dependents (defined in House Bill 1, 2006) According to House Bill 1 the pre-kindergarten program has been expanded to include children of active duty members of the military. Under the new law, the program is available to children of: •Active duty uniformed members, which include parents or guardians, of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard who are assigned to duty stations in Texas or who are Texans who have eligible children residing in Texas; •Guard and reserve-Activated/ Mobilized uniformed members of the Texas National Guard – Army or Air Guard or activated/ Mobilized members of the reserve components of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast guard who are Texas residents regardless of the location of the reserve unit: or •Military parents who are missing in action, injured in the line of duty or who have died.

5. Department of Family and Protective Services Conservatorship • Sec. 29.153 HB 1137 • A child is eligible if the child is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing under Section 262.201, Family Code.

Other Requirements: A. Birth Certificate - Furnish the school with a certified copy of the child's birth certificate.

B. Immunization Record - Furnish the school with a current immunization record.

C. Proof of Residence in Klein ISD - A lease agreement, tax records, light, water, or gas bill with your name and address is acceptable. Telephone bills cannot be accepted

D. Contact the school. Parents/ guardians seeking additional information or clarification to determine qualification for the Pre-Kindergarten program should feel to contact the school your child will attend.
