Libby, By Overdrive HOW TO SET UP A LIBBY ACCOUNT AND GET STARTED DOWNLOADING E-BOOKS ON YOUR MOBILE DEVICES. What is Libby?

 Libby is a mobile app designed specifically for public library users. With this app you can use your public library card to read or download E- books and Audiobooks on your mobile devices.

 Libby is available for mobile devices only.

 This app will allow you to download books so you can read them offline. Getting started

 Signing up is easy.

 First step is to download the app. Where you go to download depends on what device you are using. Here is a list of the app stores commonly used for mobile devices. Getting Started

 After you download the app, it’s time to set up your account. Here we will walk you through the process step by step.

 When you first open up the app you will see this screen.

 This app requires that you have a library card. If you don’t have one you will not be able to use this app.

 Tap on yes and continue to follow the instructions from the app. Getting Started

 The next step in the process is to find your local library.

 If you use Libby on other devices you can use the “Copy from my other device” option.

 The simplest option is to use the “ I’ll search for a Library” option. It will ask for the library name or you can simply put in a zip code.

 The “Guess my library” option simply uses the location from your device to determine the closest library. (Not recommended) Getting Started It will pull up the library system of that specific Zip Enter the local Zip code code Getting Started

 NorthNet Library System is a consortium of the public libraries in Northern .  This is the option you want to use. All the zip codes of Plumas County and Sierra County will pull up the NorthNet System, but some will also show other library systems as well.  For example Portola’s zip code will also pull up Washoe County System.  Make sure you chose the option shown here: NorthNet.  After choosing the NorthNet Library System, you will be asked what device you prefer to run the app on. This option is specifically for Kindle users.

 All other device users will want to continue with the “I’ll Mostly read in Libby” option. Getting Started

 Now you will be asked to sign into your NorthNet Library System account, which is just your library card number.

 You will want to make sure you have the option to chose “ Plumas County Library”

 If you don’t see this you will have to go back and make sure you chose the NorthNet Library System. Getting Started

 After clicking on the “Plumas County Library” option, this page will appear.  Enter your Library card number where it says “Card Number”  After entering your card number, click the “sign in” link to complete the sign in process.  If your library account is not in good standing , it will prevent you from completing this process.  Good standing means your card is not expired or blocked due to fines. If you can check books out at the library then you should be fine. Getting Started

 After successfully signing in, this page will appear.

 If you haven’t used Libby or Overdrive apps there should be no holds or loans showing on this page.

 The limits showing is specifically for this app not your Library card.

 4 loans and holds are the limits using this app. (This was recently changed to 10 loans) Sign Up Complete!

 Congratulations, you’ve successfully completed creating your Libby account!

 Now you can begin searching for books on your mobile device. Searching for Books

 Now that we have completed the sign-up process we can get started searching for books.  If there is a specific book you are looking for, simply enter the book title or the author’s name in the search bar circled here in red.  If you want to browse the collection, you will want use the “explore” option circled here in blue.  If you use the explore “option” you will be given a list of genres to choose from.  Once you found a book you like you will have a couple of options.

 If the book is available the option “borrow” will appear below the book.

 If the book is not available at the moment there will be a “place hold” option instead of the borrow option. Adding Books

 If your book is available, tap on the borrow option and you will be taken to this page.

 This page will verify if you want to borrow the book shown. If so, tap on the ‘Borrow!” option at the bottom of page.

 This page also shows your current loans and holds linked to your card. Adding Books

 After confirming to borrow you will be taken to the page shown here.  Now the book is available for you to start reading.  You will notice a small icon with the check mark shown. This icon let’s you know the book has been downloaded to your device.  This means you can access this book while offline.  If you don’t see this icon you may have your internet connection and may need to find a better connection to download.  If the book you are looking for is unavailable you can use the “place hold” option to receive the book when it becomes available. (Just like at the library.)  Tap on the “place hold” option and you will be directed to this page.  Confirm that you want to place a hold on this book by tapping on “place hold!” at the bottom of the page.  Just like the borrow screen, it will show your current holds and loans.  After tapping on “place hold!” you will be directed to this page showing confirmation of your placed hold.

 When a hold becomes available, you’ll get a notification and have 3 days to act on it.

 If you’re not ready to borrow it, you can have it delivered later by tapping on the “Deliver later” option. Adding books

 The notification will be indicated by the number in the top right of the screen. If you have more than one notification, the number will be different.

 From this screen you will have the option to borrow or deliver later. Tapping on the notification will also bring you to a window that gives you the option to borrow now. Adding Books

 Now that you have your book you can begin reading it on your device.

 To access your books go back to the homepage and you will want to go to your “shelf”

 To access the homepage simply tap on the “library” option at the bottom of screen anytime.

 From here you can view all the books you currently have out. Start Reading

 Tapping on the “shelf” option will take you to this page.

 From here you can see all the information on your books, as well as the progress and days left on your loan.

 Additionally you can check to see when your holds may be available. That’s it for the basics.

Congratulations, you should now be able to successfully navigate your Libby account. If you would like to learn more, there will be a short introduction to some of the more advanced options available from Libby at a later date. You can also view these options on your own by tapping on the Libby logo on the top right of the homepage. From there, go to the “Learn Libby” options to start learning these features.
