I’m your host Amy Bell and my co-host is Teddy Allen. *school bell rings with light piano intro as students shuffle along and walk to class* Amy: In this episode, we will hear from Dr. Libby Manning. She has been a professor here at Tech for about 10 years in the College of Education, teaching Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership. In our interview, we talked about her experiences as a teacher, her teaching philosophy, and some of her teaching strategies. She even mentioned how she has had to adapt her teaching, due to COVID-19 and physical distancing. Libby: So, what I discovered is they… We built communities often around novels, around characters and books, because when you live through “Number the Stars” or you live through “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry,” and you go along these journeys with these characters, you can’t help but be moved by that and you can’t help but feel like you as a class somehow got them through those struggles. And they become a part of who you are. Books do, they become a part of you. Amy: The passion Dr. Manning has for her teaching is truly inspiring. After interviewing her, I was motivated to try a little harder to be a better person.

  • Copy of Teen Book Review Binder Template
HOLDING UP THE UNIVERSE by Jennifer Niven Published in 2016 Rating (0 stars is the absolute worst, 10 stars is the BEST BOOK EVER) Genre(s): Contemporary Action/adventure Science Fiction Fantasy Romance Horror Mystery Nonfiction Historical fiction Other: This is a wild and lovely adventure following two teenage characters named Libby and Jack. Libby was once known as America's Fattest Teen. Once she felt ill and a crane had to take her our of her house. But a few years later Libby lost some weight and decided to start going to public school again for the first time in years. There is also Jack. Jack is the cool guy, he's got the swagger and the charm; he's the person everyone looks to as popular. But the thing they don't know is Jack has prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness. Jack is the only one who knows about his condition, he has not told peers, friends, or even his family. When Jack and Libby meet (in one crazy encounter), nothing is the same anymore, for either of them. I really enjoyed this book, enough to call it my favorite book. Throughout the novel you feel the emotions with the characters and get really attached to each of their stories. I finished the book very quickly because I could just not wait to see what would happen next. I am a big fan of contemporary (especially when it involves romance!). I think that the author did a fantastic job while writing. She incorporated enough detail that you could visualize everything that was going on.

richard a. hawkins James D. Dole and the 1932 Failure of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company There are fewer case studies of entrepreneurial failure than of entrepreneurial success. The records of failed businesses usually do not survive. The Hawaiian Pineapple Co. is an example of a failed company where the records survived. In 1932 a new company was organized that acquired the failed company’s name and assets. One of the assets was the brand name “Dole”. Today “Dole” is one of the leading brand names in fresh and processed fruit and vegetables. The origin of the brand name is the eponymous James Drummond Dole, who founded the Hawaiian Pineapple Company in 1901, which is one of the predecessors of today’s Dole Food Company, Inc. It is ironic that his name has survived as an international brand name because Dole lost control of his company in 1932, in what was the American Territory of Hawai‘i’s largest inter-war business failure. This article explores and analyzes the reasons for the failure of the Hawaiian Pine- apple Co. Dole migrated from his native Massachusetts to the Hawaiian Islands in late 1899 to take up the cultivation of coffee at a home- stead settlement. However, at the time coffee turned out not to be a Richard Hawkins is Senior Lecturer in History at the School of Humanities, University of Wolverhampton, England. • I Ought to Be in Pictures Study Guide
Sacramento Theatre Company Study Guide I Oughta Be in Pictures By: Neil Simon Study Guide Materials Compiled by Anna Miles Sacramento Theatre Company Mission Statement The Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) strives to be the leader in integrating professional theatre with theatre arts education. STC produces engaging professional theatre, provides exceptional theatre training, and uses theatre as a tool for educational engagement. Our History The theatre was originally formed as the Sacramento Civic Repertory Theatre in 1942, an ad hoc troupe formed to entertain locally-stationed troops during World War II. On October 18, 1949, the Sacramento Civic Repertory Theatre acquired a space of its own with the opening of the Eaglet Theatre, named in honor of the Eagle, a Gold Rush-era theatre built largely of canvas that had stood on the city’s riverfront in the 1850s. The Eaglet Theatre eventually became the Main Stage of the not-for-profit Sacramento Theatre Company, which evolved from a community theatre to professional theatre company in the 1980s. Now producing shows in three performance spaces, it is the oldest theatre company in Sacramento. After five decades of use, the Main Stage was renovated as part of the H Street Theatre Complex Project. Features now include an expanded and modernized lobby and a Cabaret Stage for special performances. The facility also added expanded dressing rooms, laundry capabilities, and other equipment allowing the transformation of these performance spaces, used nine months of the year by STC, into backstage and administration places for three months each summer to be used by California Musical Theatre for Music Circus.

  • State and Federal Advocacy on Racial Justice DATE: July 15, 2020 ______
MEMORANDUM TO: CITY COUNCIL FROM: Mayor Libby Schaaf SUBJECT: State and Federal Advocacy on Racial Justice DATE: July 15, 2020 ________________ INFORMATION This memo provides information regarding current legislation that the Mayor’s office has been advocating for at both the federal and state level related to racial equity and police reform. Below is a summary of bills. The landscape is changing quickly and we are working closely with Townsend Public Affairs to identify other opportunities to support this work. State Legislation SB 731 (Bradford): This bill would disqualify a person from being employed as a peace officer if that person has been convicted of, or has been adjudicated in an administrative, military, or civil judicial process as having committed, a violation of certain specified crimes against public justice, including the falsification of records, bribery, or perjury. The bill would also disqualify any person who has been issued a certificate by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and had that certificate revoked by the commission, has voluntarily surrendered the certificate, or has been denied issuance of a certificate. The bill would require a law enforcement employing peace officers to employ only individuals with a current, valid certification or pending certification. AB 2054 (Kamlager): will establish the Community Response Initiative to Strengthen Emergency Systems (C.R.I.S.E.S) Act pilot program, which will promote community-based responses to local emergency situations. This will help reduce the reliance on police and instead gives more power to localized communities. PolicyLink is one of the Co-Sponsors of the legislation.
