Blogger’s Guide To GETTING STARTED WITH YOUTUBE

Meredith Marsh is a web designer turned Blogger / YouTuber / Podcaster. A total introvert with millions of views on YouTube, Meredith is on a mission to help bloggers discover the magic of video content so they reach a wider audience and make more money in their business.

VidProMom Video Pursuit Podcast @vidpromom Hello! My name is Meredith and I’m the blogger and YouTube creator behind VidProMom. But let me be honest with you... I never (ever) thought I’d call myself a “YouTuber.”

I was skeptical when I started publishing weekly in January, 2015. YouTube was supposed to be a place where I could just host my how-to videos for my . I was a blogger, not a YouTuber!

It wasn’t long before the power of YouTube’s vortex sucked me in and there was no turning back:

A “dream brand” approached me to join their Influencer ✔family in my first 4 months of publishing on YouTube.

My YouTube audience grew to be 173% bigger than my ✔Facebook audience in my first 2 years of blogging.

Not only was my new audience subscribing to my channel, ✔their comments and questions gave me ideas for future videos and blog posts.

I started and grew my niche Facebook group from 0 to ✔8,000 in 2 years through the help of YouTube.

The tips that I outlined in this “getting started” guide are exactly what I did when I first started my channel, and how I currently plan my video content around audience growth on YouTube. This strategy will turn your viewers into subscribers by defining the exact content that new viewers will find, watch and subscribe for more.

Listen up, friends: YouTube isn’t for everybody. Some bloggers and content creators ignore it because it’s “over their head,” and video is too hard and too scary. When YOU implement my tried and true Search & Rescue Strategy, those complainers will be left if your wake.

Create Your Channel

Setting up a YouTube channel is relatively easy once you know where to start. I recommend creating a “Branch Channel” instead of a personal channel. Inside of the Video for Bloggers Facebook group, you’ll find a detailed walkthrough of how to set up and create your YouTube channel from scratch:

Understand The Search & Rescue Method

The Search & Rescue Method is a simple, easy way to get started on YouTube.

The concept is that if you consistently create video content that your ideal audience is searching for, and you’ll become the hero in your niche. The goal is to show up as a search result for your ideal audience!

✔In order to “show up as a search result” for your ideal audience, you need to plan your content according to The Search & Rescue Method (keep reading!).

The first thing you should understand about The Search & Rescue Method is that it’s based on YouTube’s algorithm. The algorithm is quite simple, and while the details of optimization and tactics can seem complicated, the ultimate truth is this: YouTube’s algorithm is based on human behavior.

What your audience clicks on, how long they watch your videos, where they go after they watch your videos, whether they hit the subscribe button, leave a comment, or give it a thumbs up… it’s all human behavior.

In fact, you and YouTube have the same exact goal: for people to watch your videos on YouTube. Yes! YouTube wants people to watch YOUR videos just as much as you do!

The Search & Rescue Method is my fail-proof framework for creating videos that people will find, watch, and want to subscribe for more. For consistent audience growth on YouTube, follow this framework, then “rinse and repeat.”

Viability: What are some questions or topics around your niche that you can answer in a video?

Searchability: What exactly are people searching for around these topics? Keyword research is key for YouTube!

Findability: Optimize every video you upload for the search terms your ideal audience is searching for.

Watchability: Be sure to keep your videos to the point. They don’t have to be short, but they do need to hold the viewer's interest. YouTube tracks and measures this data.

Subscribability: Provide so much value in each video that viewers want to hear from you again and hitting “Subscribe” will be a no-brainer!

When you approach audience growth with a tactic based on human behavior, you will charm YouTube’s algorithm and grow a community of engaged subscribers. To figure out who your ideal audience is and how to attract them, work through the stages of The Search & Rescue Method.
