Trip Dates January 22 – 24 2016 Signups Start September 1, 2015

Day 1 - Friday, January 22 – Hong Kong/ Fly Hong Kong/Manila CX907 0750/0950

Upon arrival, we check into the 5-star Sofitel Philippine Plaza. After lunch we will take a walking tour with Carlos Celdran of Los Intramuros, known as the Walled City. This is the historic core of Manila, constructed by the Spanish colonial government in the late 16th century and the point in the city that played an important role between the Japanese and American troops during WWII. Carlos Celdran will give us his historical knowledge (and viewpoint) of the stunning structures in this oldest district of Manila along with a humorous analysis of Philippine art, culture and society from pre-Hispanic Manila until today. Day 2 – Saturday, January 23 – Corrigedor Island After an early breakfast, we board the ferry for our excursion to Corregidor Island, home to American, Philippine and even Japanese troops during the Second World War. An amazingly beautiful island with stunning views of , Corregidor is a photographer’s dream on its own – but its history is what makes it a “must see”. We retrace that history as we visit General MacArthur’s Headquarters, the Mile Long Barracks, the Spanish Lighthouse, the Memorial and more. We venture deep underground through the Malinta Tunnels, a network of tunnels where US troops held out against the Japanese. We see the underground hospital area, the areas where the Voice of Freedom and the USAFFE ( Armed Forces in the Far East) broadcast, areas where weapons were stored and get a feel for what the troops lived through.

Day 2 – continued… Our tour includes lunch on the island. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon, where we can rest up before traditional Filipino dancers entertain us over dinner at Barbara’s in Los Intramuros, where main entrees celebrate traditional Filippino and Spanish recipes and house specialties also include European-inspired dishes. For those of us who are interested, there is time before dinner for some shopping for Filipino handcrafts at a nearby shopping area, a spa treatment or swim at the hotel, or just a little downtime.
