The Golden State Freeway (I-5) is a key transportation route for moving people, goods and services throughout the state. To relieve congestion, Caltrans is improving the I-5 South corridor, between the Orange County line and San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605). The improvements include:
• High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV/carpool), General Purpose Lanes
• Interchange Improvements – Ramps, bridge widenings

• The Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) Florence Avenue Interchange Project will widen I-5 to add 1 HOV or carpool lane, and 1 general purpose lane in each direction
• The project extends through the cities of Downey and Santa Fe Springs to just north of I-605
• Improvements include widening structures at Florence Avenue and Orr and Day Road, shoulder widening, median barriers, new on-ramp and off-ramp designs, and reconfiguring the Florence Avenue interchange at I-5.
• The Florence Avenue overcrossing will be widened from 4 lanes to 6 lanes Florence Avenue Interchange Project Benefits

• Revitalize our I-5 community Florence Avenue Interchange Construction Facts • Project cost is $215.4 million
• Construction began February, 2015. Anticipated traffic opening is late 2019.
• Current work includes retaining wall construction, pile driving, and roadway embankment work
• Dollison Drive (between Quinn Street and southbound I-5 on- ramp) and southbound I-5 Dollison Drive have been permanently closed
