Profile of

Zaha Hadid was born in in 1950. She studied at the Architectural Association (AA) in London from 1972 and was awarded the Diploma Prize in 1977. She then became a partner of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), taught at the AA with OMA collaborators and , and later led her own studio at the AA until 1987.

She was made Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Fellow of the American Institute of Architecture and Commander of the British Empire, 2002. She is currently Professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria and is the Visiting Professor of Architectural Design at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.

In 2004, she became the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Her masterpieces include the mobile art museum, a travelling exhibition featuring pieces inspired by the Chanel quilt bag; Germany's Phaeno Science Centre, located in ; and the BMW Central Building, located in .

Projects by

Zaha Hadid’s work of the past 30 years was the subject of a critically-acclaimed retrospective exhibition at New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 2006. Her projects include the Contemporary Arts Centre, Cincinnati, USA (2003), the Hotel Puerta America interior in , Spain (2005), the Ordrupgaard Museum Extension in , Denmark (2005), the Nordpark Cable Railway, , Austria (2007) and the Bridge Pavilion in Spain (2008). In 2009, Hadid’s revolutionary design for the National Museum of Contemporary Art will open in Rome, Italy and the Opera House will open in .

Projects by Zaha Hadid Architects which recently won design competitions include a new National Art Museum in , Lithuania; the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in Michigan, USA; and the King Abdullah II Performing Arts Centre in Amman, Jordan (joint first prize).
