The Trump Shuttle, which billionaire developer Donald Trump has promised will be a "diamond" in the sky, will probably start up some time in early March, its president- Bruce R. Nobles said yesterday.! 'lAs a result, the opening of the new version of what is now the Eastern Air Shuttle may coincide with a strike at Eastern at the end of a 30-day cooling off period imposed by federal mediators. The 30-day period ends at midnight March 3.! UNobles said yesterday that- he believes the long-running labor dispute between Eastern and the International Association of Machinists will be resolved without a strike. But- if a strike occurs, Noble said, he is not sure what its impact will be on the shuttle start-up.! 'H For the past three months since Frank Lorenzo, chairman of Eastern's parent company Texas Air, announced the $365 million sale of the shuttle to Trump, Nobles has been building an airline company and overseeing the transfer of the shuttle from Eastern to its new ownership.! H However, shuttle passengers are not likely to see a major difference immediately when the new shuttle operation begins. Nobles said that the company is considering buying one or more Boeing 727s, so that it can have airplanes painted in Trump's color's—with red and gold stripes_on opening day. But most of the planes will have been flying up until the night before as Eastern Air Lines.! 'UNobles said one of the biggest problems confronting the operation is that passengers are expecting something new, but that, 1ogistically, something radically different is hard to deliver when an operation changes hands overnight.! 9"We haven't completely decided yet what we're going to do," said Nobles. "The employees who have elected to come with us are very enthusiastic. They can't wait to get started on this thing. They can really be our biggest asset" explaining what the plans are and why they are going to take time, he said.! <3"You can't do it in this short of time," said Nobles. "The lead time just on new carpets for the airplanes is prohibitive."! Uln addition, "we want to take the time to make sure we like the look we create," said Nobles. "It will take some time_a year or a year and a half_to get the look we want-."! H On Jan. 18, the Department- of Transportation tentatively approved the sale of the shuttle. The Trump Shuttle is still in the process of receiving an operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration, however, and training its workers. Most of the workers who have been hired by the Trump Shuttle are currently employed by Eastern but are being trained in the procedures the Trump Shuttle will use. Nobles said that the financing for the sale, which will be financed by commercial banks, is almost complete.! Iln addition, the administrative and corporate framework for the shuttle company is being pulled together. Nobles has hired Richard F. Coszi, formerly Pan American World Airways' director of services planning, as vice president of operations. John Siefert, Eastern's vice president of shuttle operations, will be Trump's vice president for customer service. Jeff Walker, a long-time Trump employee will be vice president for corporate services, and Ray Grebey, most recently at Pan Am, will be vice president- for corporate and employee relations.! 'fl In the meantime, Eastern has been in touch with travel agents, trying to maintain Eastern's share of the shuttle market against- the Pan Am Shuttle. Eastern's recent promotion, offering passengers $50 gift certificates to fly its shuttle, is part of that effort, Nobles said.!

TRUMP SHUTTLE UNVEILS REFURBISHED AIRCRAFT INTERIOR

New York, NY, October 19, 1989 — The Trump Shuttle today

unveiled the first of its completely refurbished aircraft

interiors, providing a greatly enhanced, convenient environment

for Shuttle fliers. The entire Boeing 727 fleet refurbishment will

be complete in Spring 1990.

Using the finest materials, the 727 interiors have a corporate

boardroom look of leather, wood panelling, marble and plush carpeting. Seats are soft leather in saddle tan color with

burgundy accents and chrome trim, and their trim design offers increased leg room. Carpet on the floor and lower walls is plush

burgundy. Bulkheads are bird's eye maple veneer panelling, chrome and burgundy carpet. Restrooms feature hand-crafted pink marble- look vanities, makeup lighting, bird's eye maple veneer panelling and a burgundy porcelain sink.

During the 10-week refurbishment, the aircraft also underwent an extensive maintenance and structural program, and its exterior was painted in the Trump Shuttle color scheme. All aircraft sidewalls, bins and overhead ceiling panels were removed and refurbished. The new galley was done in burgundy laminates to color-coordinate with the new interior design. Additionally, the cockpit was refurbished and the cabin environmental system was upgraded.

Page Avjet Corporation at Orlando International Airport is the contractor for Trump Shuttle's fleet refurbishment program. The next new interior is due out early next month.

OAK BROOK, III., July 27 - GTE Airfone Inc. has reached an agreement with the Trump Shuttle to install the Airfone® in-flight

telephone service in all of the airline's jetliners during the next

month as part of the shuttle's refurbishment of its entire fleet.

air carriers offering the Airfone service," said Mark Schneider, GTE

Airfone's vice president-marketing. "We're proud to be a part of the

Trump airline service."

The Trump Shuttle, which began operation on June 8, is owned by real-estate developer Donald Trump following his $365 million

purchase from Eastern Airlines. The New York City-based airline

serves the busy Boston-New York-Washington, D.C., air-shuttle

"Our goal for the Trump Shuttle is to create the finest transportation system in the world. The installation of these state- of-the-art in-flight telephones is an important step in realizing that goal," Trump said.

The two companies agreed to quickly and temporarily equip the

Boeing 727s with the cordless Airfone system. As Trump refurbishes the planes, GTE Airfone will install, by mid-1990, its newest technology, the Seatfone™ system. The Seatfone system offers a telephone in the center seatback of each row.

Air travelers use the Seatfone system by inserting any of the major credit cards accepted by the system into a slot, which is part of the equipment. The handset is released, then passengers slide the same card through the handset's built-in card reader, which verifies the card and records the billing information. After that, the passenger simply dials the area code and telephone number.

The addition of the Trump Shuttle brings to 17 the total number of domestic-airline companies served by GTE Airfone. The company, based here, provides public-telephone service for travelers on airplanes and trains, serving more than 1,100 domestic and international aircraft and two major AMTRAK routes on the East and West coasts. To date, GTE Airfone has billed customers for more than 5 million calls using the Airfone service.
