But before I start getting all misty eyed, let’s also pay homage to airlines that have flown away into history. 1 / 3 Darienite There’s PEOPLExpress, the domestic discount airline that flew out of Newark’s grungy old North Terminal startingNews infor 1981. Darien Fares were dirt cheap, collected on-board during the flight and checked bags cost $3. You https://darienite.comeven had to pay for sodas and snacks. The airline expanded too fast, even adding a 747 to its fleet for $99 flights to Brussels, and was eventually merged with Continental under its rapacious Chairman Frank Lorenzo, later banished from the industry by the Department of Transportation. There were any number of smaller, regional airlines that merged or just folded their wings, including Mohawk, Northeast, Southeast, Midway, L’Express, Independence Air, Air California, PSA and a personal favorite, Midwest Express, started by the Kimberly Clark paper company to shuttle employees between its mills and headquarters in Milwaukee. Midwest flew DC-9s, usually fitted with coach seats in a 2-and-3 configuration, but equipped instead with business-class 2-and-2 leather seats.

  • This Is the Us Master Pilot Scablist the Unionist's Edition
THIS IS THE US MASTER PILOT SCABLIST THE UNIONIST’S EDITION A SCAB is A Person Who is Doing What You’d be Doing if You Weren’t on Strike. A SCAB takes your job, a Job he could not get under normal circumstances. He can only advance himself by taking advantage of labor disputes and walking over the backs of workers trying to maintain decent wages and working conditions. He helps management to destroy his and your profession, often ending up under conditions he/she wouldn't even have scabbed for. No matter. A SCAB doesn't think long term, nor does he think of anything other then himself. His smile shows fangs that drip with your blood, for he willingly destroys families, lives, careers, opportunities and professions at the drop of a hat. He takes from a striker what he knows he could never earn by his own merit: a decent Job. He steals that which others earned at the bargaining table through blood, sweat and tears, and throws it away in an instant - ruining lives, jobs and careers. ONCE A SCAB, ALWAYS A SCAB - NEVER FORGET! Below are brief notes about legal strikes by organized pilots. 1. Century Airlines 1932: Pilots struck to resist wage reduction by E.L Cord, the patron saint of Frank Lorenzo. 2. TWA 1946: Pilots struck over pay on faster 4 engine aircraft, limited by the provisions of Decision 83. 3. National Airlines 1948: Strike over aircraft safety and repeated violations of the labor contract. 4. Western Airlines 1958: Qualifications of the Flight Engineer.

Closing Thoughts 116 2 Part One United Airlines before the Deregulation Act of 1938 United Airlines officially began airline operations in 1926 as a mail carrier. It was also the first fare- paying airline to fly customers from coast to coast in the United States, and by 1930, had introduced the concept of an airline stewardess. The airline soon became one of the “Big Four” contenders in the U.S. and continues to be one of America’s major airlines. It was founded in Boise, Idaho. United Airlines was originally formed as a partnership between Boeing Airplane Company and Pratt & Whitney. It was overseen by the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation and United Air Lines was actually an operating division that was established on July 1, 1931. United’s slogan was the “World’s Largest Air Transport System”. The four transport divisions of the United Aircraft and Transportation Corporation had now become United Airlines. When the Air Mail Act of 1934 broke up all of the aviation holding companies in the United States, the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation was broken up into Boeing, United Aircraft and United Air Lines. It was at this time that United Airlines began offering coast-to-coast service from New York to San Francisco and Los Angeles. Within four months of the beginning coast-to-coast operations, United Air Lines was making as many as 11 round trips every day between Chicago and New York.
