Welcome to Apley Grange

Since 1970 Apley Grange has been the care home of the European Province of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus (SHCJ), an international congregation of Roman Catholic religious sisters.

We welcome to Apley Grange women who would like to share our home, living with us in a warm, friendly, Christian environment.

Philosophy of Care

At Apley Grange we provide support, care and nursing, according to individual needs. Our aim is to support residents to lead full and happy lives and to be as independent as possible, taking into account each one’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs, and their abilities, personality and choices.

Accommodation

Set within secluded gardens and grounds, in a quiet residential area close to the Stray, the care home has three interlinked buildings, offering different levels of care according to individual need. Hilda House provides facilities for semi-independent living; Margaret and Cornelia Houses are for residents who need more specialist care and nursing.

There are forty-two single en-suite rooms, fitted with mobility aids. Each room has a television and internet access. Lifts serve the rooms on the upper floor. Residents are encouraged to personalize their rooms, bringing small items of furniture or other treasured possessions.

Visitors are always welcome at Apley Grange and can be received by residents at any time. There is a small self-contained flat, with kitchen/lounge area and two en-suite rooms available when necessary.

The Chapel

The spiritual needs of each person are important in the holistic care offered in Apley Grange. There are regular services in chapel, it is possible to view them from the lounge areas and individual rooms by video link. Opportunities are provided for prayer and reflection by the Pastoral Care Team, and our resident Priest.

Activities

The wide range of activities include arts and crafts, singing, poetry, gardening, quizzes, check, bingo, reminiscing and films. There are regular exercise classes. Guest speakers and entertainers come periodically. Many books are available and there is also an external library service.

Special events to mark significant days of the year are enjoyed as various ways of fund-raising for local charities.

Grounds

The garden and grounds are accessible to everyone, whatever their degree of mobility. The beauty of each season in the mature garden provides an attractive outlook from many of the rooms.
