Year 3 Home Learning Activities – WB 20.07.2020

Should we judge a book by its cover? Can the Iron Man save the earth? Please do not read ahead! It’s important that you read the pages and then answer the questions before you read the next part so that you are able to make predictions and assumptions without knowing what is going to happen. English:

Here’s a reminder of the reading VIPERS we use in school. VIPERS are the skills we use to gain understanding from what we are reading and the questions that are asked are building your ability to use each skill. Vocabulary – understanding new words using context. Words can mean more than one thing and the context helps you to work out which meaning it has when. Infer – ‘reading between the lines’. The text doesn’t tell you but you know from clues. Predict – predicting what is going to happen based on what you’ve read so far and your own knowledge. Explain – why has the author made the language and punctuation choices in his / her writing? Explain your understanding of what is happening. Retrieve – finding answers straight from the text. Summarise – retelling in short the main things that have happened so far. Which are the most important parts that people need to know?

Task: End of Year 'Scrapbook'

This week we would like you to create your own 'scrapbook' to help you remember this

very different academic year. Design your own way to present your scrapbook page(s)

each day and send us a picture so that we can remember the year with you!

Ideas could include writing, drawing pictures, photos, PowerPoint presentations and

any other ways you can think of!

Scrapbook Day One - The School Year Before Lockdown

We would like you to create your page(s) about your time in school before lockdown.

Think carefully about all the amazing things you took part in, achieved and enjoyed

before March 20th 2020.

Scrapbook Day Two - The School Year During Lockdown

We would like you to create your page(s) about your time during lockdown and home

learning. Think carefully about all the time you spent during lockdown, all the activities

you took part in and anything you enjoyed!

Scrapbook Day Three - The Easing of Lockdown

We would like you to create your page(s) about what you are looking forward to as

lockdown begins to ease. Although life is still very different at the moment, think

carefully about all the things you would like to do in moving forwards as lockdown

begins to ease. We know many of you will have so many different ideas of

enjoyable things you are looking forward to and are going to include in your scrapbook

today.
