3. Devon & Cornwall Police Update
Inspector Reggie Butler-Card detailed his report as attached.
There has been a drop in the crime figures due to lockdown although a change in policy with regards to COVID breaches may show an increase. The new policy allows the police to respond to all COVID breaches reported as, unless there was an aggravating factor the issue got closed down without being investigated. This was a concern and raised as an issue. On average there are 20 COVID breach reports per day and it has been challenging to meet the demand. The Police have issued and continue to issue quite a few fines. In other areas of the Force there have been staffing issues due to staff having to isolate, at present this had not happened in Wadebridge/Padstow.
Unfortunately, data for local areas will not be released for public information, which is a decision that come from the top.
Cllr Robin Moorcroft wanted to thank the Police Force for the work that is being carried out at this time.
Domestic Violence figures are not currently report on but with the Bodmin/Wadebridge area there had been a 11.5% decrease on last year. This is an area the police have focused on so it has been very successful.
Discussions took place around how far you are currently legally allowed to go during lockdown. Firstly, you shouldn’t be exercising or meeting with more than 1 person. Unfortunately, there is little guidance on how far you walk or cycle locally. As there is no definitive answer it is very hard to give a straight answer. If you can walk somewhere closer, do you really need to cycle/drive to do it?
Second homeowners are allowed to carry out essential maintenance but please report any problems to the 101 telephone line.
