3rd June 1843 Notice of Removal Order from Lanivet (Thomas Waram & family) NOTICE In the matter of Thomas Waram Ann his Wife and George, William, John and Joseph their children Paupers To the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Breock in the County of Cornwall We the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Lanivet in the County of Cornwall, do hereby give you notice that the above named Thomas Waram Ann his Wife and George, William, John and Joseph their children have become chargeable to the Parish of Lanivet aforesaid and that an Order has been duly obtained for their removal to your said Parish of Saint Breock as the place of their last legal settlement (a Copy of which Order and also a Copy of the Examination on which the same order was founded and made are herewith sent.) – And we do also hereby further give you notice that unless you appeal against the said Order and within 21 days from the date hereof duly serve notice of such appeal the said Paupers will be removed to your said Parish of St Breock in pursuance of the said Order. Words in bold italics inserted in handwriting into printed document Source: LDS Film 1596549 image 173; original document CRO Ref: DDP. 19/13/3/18/1 1st June 1843 Examination of Thomas Waram County of } The Examination of Thomas Waram now residing in the parish of Lanivet in the Cornwall } County of Cornwall touching the place of his last legal Settlement taken upon Oath before us Two of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Cornwall, this First day of June One thousand eight hundred and forty three. Who saith I am Twenty six years of age. About Ladyday one thousand eight hundred and thirty one I went to live with Mr Charles Cleave a Farmer of Trerice in Saint Breock as a yearly Servant in husbandry at the yearly wages of Fifty two shillings; My Mother made the bargain with him. I served him under this hiring for one year and one week and during all the time resided and slept at his House at Trerice in Saint Breock aforesaid. At the time of the said hiring and service with the said Charles Cleave I was unmarried not having child or children. My Mother received part of my Wages and I settled with Mr Cleave when I left him and received the remainder. I went from him to my Mothers House in Saint Wenn and slept there one night, and then went to live with Mr James Retallack of the same parish Yeoman. I agreed with him for Fifty Weeks at Three Pounds and ten Shillings. I served him during that time and received my Wages. I left him and at the end of Four days I made a fresh bargain with him for Fifty Weeks at Five Pounds and remained with him under that hiring for Nine Months when I left him and went to live with Mr John Hicks of Saint Wenn Yeoman. I agreed with him for Six Pounds for Fifty weeks and served him under that hiring Six Months, when I left him and went out to daily labour for some Months. I then went to live with Mr Andrew of Saint Wenn Yeoman. I agreed with him for one year for Six Pounds and served him under that hiring one year and Three Months during that time residing and sleeping in Saint Wenn. It was in October One thousand eight hundred and thirty four I first went with Mr Andrew. After I left him I went out to daily labour and have never done any other act to gain a Settlement. Four years ago last January I married by banns my present Wife (before her marriage called Ann Brewer) at the parish Church of Saint Wenn aforesaid and have by her Four Children namely George and William (twins) aged Four Years, John aged Two Years and Joseph aged Four Months. Who saith, I am now the Wife of John Vercoe; I married my first Husband John Waram at the parish Church of Saint Columb Major in the year One thousand eight hundred and Ten. He was a Blacksmith. About Three Years after our Marriage we went to reside at Wadebridge in the parish of Saint Breock. I had six children by my first Husband. Thomas Waram the pauper is one of them. He was born at Wadebridge in the parish of Saint Breock aforesaid Twenty Six years ago last February. When he was Three years and a half old my first Husband died. My Husband had been ill for Two Years before his death and during the year previous to his death I received relief for him and my family from the Overseers of the parish of Saint Breock aforesaid. Mr Brabyn and Mr John Thomas were the Overseers at that time. I continued to reside about Two Years in Wadebridge in the parish of Saint Breock aforesaid after his death and received relief during that time from the Overseers of Saint Breock for myself and children, Eight Shillings and Six pence per week. I then went to Saint Columb and resided with my Brother one year and eight Months. I continued to receive Eight Shillings and Six pence per week during that time from the parish of Saint Breock. Mr Philp a Shopkeeper of Wadebridge paid me. I left my Brother and went to Saint Wenn to reside and have continued there ever since. I lived there eight Years and then married my present Husband. I received relief from the parish of Saint Breock. Mr Philp paid me until my youngest child was about nine years old and he was about One year and a half old when my Husband died. My son Thomas remained with me as part of my family until he was about Eight Years and a half old when my Brother Thomas Magor of Saint Columb took him. He afterwards lived with Mr Sandy of Mawgan for about Six Weeks and then with Mr Sweet about four weeks and then at Ladyday One thousand eight hundred and thirty one I made a bargain with Mr Charles Cleave Farmer of Trerice in the parish of Saint Breock for him for one year as a Farm Servant for Fifty Two Shillings. He served with Mr Cleave under that hiring for one year and one week and during that time resided and slept at his house in Saint Breock. I received part of his Wages. Kendall 3rd June 1843 Examination of William Truman The Examination of William Truman taken on Oath this third day of June One thousand eight hundred and forty three before us Two of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for the County of Cornwall Who saith, I am Governor of the Bodmin Union Workhouse; the Parish of Lanivet is in the Bodmin Union; I know Thomas Waram, Ann his Wife and George, William, John and Joseph their Children; they are actually chargeable to the parish of Lanivet and relief has been granted to them by me in the said Bodmin Union Workhouse and charged to the Parish of Lanivet Taken and Sworn (signed) William Truman Before us – (signed) T.J. UPON the complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Lanivet aforesaid, in the said County of Cornwall unto us whose Names are hereunto set and Seals affixed, being Two of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, in and for the said County of Cornwall and one of us of the Quorum, that Thomas Waram, Ann his Wife, George and William their sons (twins) aged four years, John their Son aged two years and Joseph their Son aged four Months have come to inhabit in the said Parish of Lanivet not having gained a legal settlement there, nor produced any certificate, owning them to be settled elsewhere; and that the said Thomas Waram, Ann his Wife, George, William, John and Joseph their Children are now actually chargeable to said Parish of Lanivet We, the said Justices, upon due proof thereof, as well upon the examination of the said Thomas Waram and Mary Vercoe his Mother upon oath, as otherwise, and likewise upon due consideration had of the premises, do adjudge the same to be true; and we do adjudge that the lawful Settlement of the said Thomas Waram, Ann his Wife and George, William, John and Joseph their Children is in the Parish of Saint Breock in the said County of Cornwall We do therefore require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the said Parish of Lanivet or some one of you, to convey the said Thomas Waram, Ann his Wife and George, William, John and Joseph their Children from out of your said Parish of Lanivet to the said Parish of Saint Breock and them to deliver to the Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor there, or to some or one of them, together with this our order, or a true Copy thereof, at the same time shewing to them the original; and We do hereby require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint Breock to receive and provide for them as Inhabitants of your said Parish of Saint Breock.
