Each issue will be more jam-packed with pictures, stories, exciting new contests and all the requisite snark you’ve come to love and expect from these pages.

And as if that weren’t enough, look for our amped-up Web presence at WindyCityMe- diaGroup.com. Check out our new bi-weekly (staggered weeks with the print version) online-only issues of Nightspots, no doubt featuring the type of shit we can’t get away with in a respectable print publication. At our annual Windy City Media Group holiday party at Mary’s Attic, Nightspots columnists [L-R] Homer Marrs, DJ Res-5, Michael Hampton and graysong enjoy the fruits of my labor. Wouldn’t that make them the fruits of my labor? But I digress. This is what you might call a perk of the job. Sorry, not currently accepting applications.

8 January 28, 2009 photos by DJ Res-5 the dj, the music and you by DJ Res-5 Dumbo: The Circus Column

Gay Chinese New Year’s Dinner I am just going to start out by telling you why this is the circus column. When Britney’s album came out, I gave Sat., February 7, 2009 it pretty low-profile coverage. So, to make good, I am www.afchicago.org giving high-profile treatment to the remixes! Enjoy the show.

Let’s start with the mixes of “Circus” that belong in the big top, err... big room. The big name bootleg to watch out for is the Razor & Guido mix. While there are indeed unfinished versions of this one on the net, the finished mix is excellent. It’s bouncy, fun, and still sexy. They are in top form. Another mix well worth checking out is the Angel Manuel mix. It’s simple, rhythmic, and has just the lightest touch of tribal drum before honing focus on what is my favorite part in the track, the bridge. On the officially commissioned end, there are mixes from Junior Vasquez and Diplo. Honestly, I have to say they disappoint all around, but if I had to pick Item Of The Month one, I would go with Junior’s “Ringleader” mix. It loses its mind and goes all military drum squad just Diplo before the six- minute mark.

Every circus needs a lion tamer, and we got one. Wide- boys and Stonebridge both tamed the Pussycat Dolls single “Whatcha Think About That” with new remixes (late as they may be). Both are good and worth your listen. On the flipside is the new track called “Pussy” by Nadastrom. It samples the classic Soul II Soul song, “Back To Life” and adds HOT techno beats.

Lastly we have a chick painted up like a circus clown. Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” is on iTunes; check it out.

what do YOU wanna do? Nightspots’ Free Dating Advice (you’re welcome) BAR-lesque for TPAN at by Michael Hampton Scarlet photos by David Brown

I know. You’ve lost your job and you are feeling like a complete dud. Get on Manhunt right now and arrange to meet someone because for a nominal fee, you can still have a good time. One of the best budget-friendly dates in the city for the LGBT crowd is at Big Chicks at 5024 N. Sheridan Rd.

On Monday nights, starting at 5 p.m., you can get a burger for a dollar and cheap pitchers of beer. The vibe is fun and so is the staff. Feel like finding a new date while on a bad one? Go ahead! But do it while he’s in the bathroom or you’ll look like an ass.

On Sunday evenings, in addition to having a fun crowd, they offer a free barbeque usually including side dishes and some entrée served with a smile (as long as you tip them for the trouble). Just want to drown your sorrows? Vodka and lemonade cocktails are only $2.

The first Thursday of every month brings Formerly Known As…, which is a dance party for transgen- dered men and women and their admirers; Homo- latte offers queer poetry and more twice a month.

as seen on tvs tvfail.blogspot.com TVfail is not about the latest disaster the networks have trundled on air. It’s about the other kind of TV, you know, the kind that is part of our community? This site features tranny photos along with the person’s own words from the original posting. The sole editorial comment comes from the entry title—things like: “Monobrow of the Month” and “Epic Fail of the Month II: Most Fail Ever.” Is this perhaps a bit mean? Yes, but so is Lurid Digs, and nobody complained when I posted that site. 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE, IT’S... 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 Your not so clever as you think you are www.photocliches.com PhotoCliches gathers up examples of common photograph archetypes, things people do because they think it’s clever and original when it’s really hackneyed and trite. You know, like groping a statue, a group of three doing the Sanzaru, or pretending to be Lynndie England. The site culls pics from photo sites and takes submissions, so if you have a picture of yourself pretending to snort Coke or squatting on the Washington Monument out there on the intarwebz, it just might be here already. 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 Rock the Cradle http://rockabyebabymusic.com/ Lullaby versions of contemporary rock music for hip parents that don’t want to play that gawdawful Rockaby Baby song for their kids. Can you blame them? What with lyrics about the cradle being in a tree top and the cradle and baby plunging to earth (and likely death)? Of course not. It’s much better to play songs from the Ramones, AC/DC, and Tool. I have to say, You Shook Me All Night Long seems like the wrong thing to play to a baby. (Note to editor: Yes, Kirk, there is a Pixies edition.) 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 20 January 28, 2009 nightSPOTSMAFIA We’ll tell ya what ta think Special Guest: Entrepreneur Jody Andre
