THE MINDEN OURIER VolumeC 127, No. 47 themindencourier.com May 17, 2017 $1 School Board-Extra Duty Assignments And Summer Projects The À rst order of business during the May 8 Minden Public Schools Board of Education meeting was to approve the excused absence of board members Ken Carpenter and Richard Jacobson. The remaining board members then got started on a full agenda. A hearing was opened for the reafÀ rmation of Policy 5416 Student Fees, 6400 Parental Involvement, and 5415 Anti-Bullying. The policies are reviewed annually, no changes were suggested. With no further comments, the hearing was closed. Jeff and Tammy Hanson attended the meeting to express a concern during public comment. They explained their worry that the girls basketball team didn’t have a head coach or even an assistant coach. To keep the basketball team at the level they have been playing, they encouraged the board to seek a head coach soon. Although the season doesn’t start right away, summer is traditionally used for team bonding and skills camps and they worry the Minden girls will miss out without a coach. Extra duty assignments for the new school year were brought to the board for approval. The list reÁ ected some changes to coaching positions as well as some empty slots to beÀ lled. The 2017-18 extra duty assignments were approved and Dr. Melissa Wheelock and Phil Hoyt were authorized to À ll empty positions as needed. The À rst reading of Policy 3571 Meal Charge was ap- proved. The policy establishes guidelines for school meal accounts after a negative balance is reached. It states that after students who receive full or reduced price meals reach a negative $50 balance, they will no longer be allowed to charge meals to their account but they will be offered an alternate meal. Wheelock explained that although the Dis- trict isn’t required to feed students with a zero or negative Minden High balance, they feel it is important that every student receives a meal.
