Tophane Design Hotel , Summary

This wonderfully located building in the heart of Istanbul has a history dating back to the 1910’s, when it was built as a boarding house. It is a Grade II listed building and was built in the characteristic style of the period, with a western-facing balcony and a three-sided “cumba” or “bay window” on the eastern side. The total gross area of the project amounts to 1163m2 (including two basement levels and terrace), stretching across two adjoining parcels of land totalling 162m2. This Grade II listed building is currently being restored by architect Galata Yapi, specialist in the restoration of historic buildings in Beyoglu. Built in the 1910’s as a boarding house for sailors, due to its location beside the old port district, the building has a beautiful historic façade and high ceilings. This five storey building has two basement levels, ideal for art gallery/design space, a ground floor café, four floors of accommodation comprising 16 studio units and a roof top terrace with views of the historic peninsula. .
