2004 Russo Sassobucato A Proprietary Blend Dry Red Table wine from Tuscany, Italy,
Review by WA # , #177 (Jun 2008) Rating: 90 Drink 2009 - 2016 Cost: $30
The 2004 Sasso Bucato is Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged 16 months in French oak. The wine shows superior density in its sweet dark fruit, herbs and minerals, with outstanding persistence and a long, lingering finish. There is a beautiful sense of varietal expression married to a Tuscan personality of warmth that I find immensely appealing. Given the explosion of prices in Tuscany’s Maremma, this wine offers terrific value for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016. Russo is a small property located in Suvereto. 2004 Russo Barbicone A Sangiovese Dry Red Table wine from Tuscany, Italy,
Review by WA # , #177 (Jun 2008) Rating: 88 Drink 2008 - 2011 Cost: $25
The 2004 Barbicone shows a darker profile than the 2005, with well-delineated notes of dark cherries, tobacco and herbs on a medium-bodied frame. The tannins are well-integrated, yet I would choose to give this wine a few more months in bottle to come together. Barbicone is a French oak- aged blend of 80% Sangiovese, and Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Canaiolo and Giacomino. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011. Russo is a small property located in Suvereto.
