Precious Jesus, through the heart of the Immaculate Mary, our Mother, we trust in You!

We all love to celebrate birthdays. Today is the birthday celebration of our dear mother. In December we honor her Immaculate Conception. In January we celebrate her as the Mother of God. In August we celebrate her Assumption into and there are many other days throughout the year where we honor a unique aspect of her life. But today is simply her birthday celebration! Celebrating her birthday is a way of celebrating her personhood. We celebrate her simply for being herself. We do not necessarily focus in on any of the unique, beautiful and profound aspects of her life today. We do not necessarily look at all she accomplished, her perfect yes to God, her in Heaven, her assumption or any other specifics. All parts of her life are glorious, beautiful, awe-inspiring and worthy of their own unique feasts and celebration. Today, however, we simply celebrate our Blessed Mother because she was created and brought into this world by God and that alone is worth celebrating. We honor her simply because we love her and we celebrate her birthday as we would celebrate the birthday of anyone we love and care for. Reflect, today, upon the fact that Mother Mary is your mother. She truly is your mother and it’s worth celebrating her birthday in the same way that you would celebrate anyone’s birthday who was a member of your family. Your honoring of Mary, today, is a way of solidifying your bond with her and assuring her that you desire her to be an important part of your life. Happy birthday, Blessed Mother! We love you dearly!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Starting Thursday, September 23rd - Two Bereavement Support Groups: Mourning the loss of someone you love is never easy, but there is . The Collaborative Parishes of Sacred Heart and St. Thomas More will host a bereavement support group for those grieving the recent loss of a loved one. We will meet on Thursdays, beginning September 23rd and continuing for 7 weeks from 11:30AM-12:30PM in the Sacred Heart church hall. Though each of us has the story of our own loss, and our journey is often alone in the company of our own thoughts and feelings, we also make it with others who share our grief and care for us and most importantly we make it with God, who is always with us. Together we lift each other in prayer and begin to somehow learn to live with our grief.

New Group for those who grieve. This group is designed for people whose significant losses occurred some time ago (over one or two years). There is, of course, no time table for grief. However, the way we live with it and how it manifests in our lives changes with the passage of time. Each week, we will check in with each other. Over 7 weeks, we will discuss one chapter of a book that addresses different aspects of our faith and how we move forward without the physical presence of our loved ones. Join us on Thursdays from 1:00-2:00PM in the Sacred Heart Church Hall to share your faith experiences and challenges after the loss of your loved one.

What Really Happens After We Die is a book written by Dr. James Papandrea and published by the Sophia Institute. Papandrea is a Catholic professor of Church History and Historical Theology at Northwestern University. In this very readable book, Dr. Papandrea gathers into one place all that we know about the from the teachings of Jesus, the Apostles, the and Church leaders. Over 7 weeks, beginning September 23rd, we will discuss ques- tions such as, - What is heaven like? - What do we mean when we say our souls leave our bodies? - How can I continue my relationship with my loved one after he or she passes? - Are there hugs in heaven? (yes!!) Discover the richness of Catholic teachings about life after death and how the Lord carries us as we heal from loss.

What makes these groups different from other grief support groups? Prayer is at the heart of our support groups. It is like a compass on our journey of grief, keeping us on the path and showing us the way. As we grow in our prayer life, we will begin to recognize more often that God is indeed with us; walking with us on this long and difficult journey. We hope that you will prayerfully consider our invitation to come. We need each other. We are uplifted by knowing that the Lord blesses those who mourn and offers not only hope for us but true peace that surpasses all understanding. Both groups meet at Sacred Heart. The hall is handicapped accessible. New participants are welcome. The size of the group is lim- ited to allow for proper distancing. Inquire at 781-331-6333 or email Mary Beth at [email protected] for details.
