Im Studio begrüße ich herzlich Frau Ruth Lapide: Sie ist Historikerin und Judaistin. Wir werden uns mitten hinein begeben in diese grandiose Geschichte des ersten großen Königs in Israel. Es ist die Geschichte von König David, aber wir müssen natürlich mit Samuel beginnen, mit einem Propheten, der dieses Königtum quasi schaffen mußte, weil die Israeliten ankamen und sagten: "Wir wollen auch einen König haben, wie alle Völker rings um uns herum." Aber er sagte daraufhin zunächst: "Wozu braucht ihr denn einen König? Euer König ist doch Jahwe." Es gab dann aber einen König mit dem Namen Saul. Eines Tages kam jedoch Jahwe zu Samuel und sagte zu ihm, er solle nach Bethlehem gehen. Was hatte Samuel in Bethlehem zu tun? Lapide: In Bethlehem wohnte ein Herr Ischai. Dieser Herr Ischai hatte sieben Söhne. Und Herr Ischai lebte eben ausgerechnet in Bethlehem: Hier fängt schon diese Tradition an, die wir bereits von Rahel und Jakob her kennengelernt haben. Diese Tradition setzt sich mit gewissen Sprüngen fort, aber man kann schon sagen, daß die Heilsgeschichte auf Bethlehem zentriert ist. Samuel ist natürlich von Anfang an gegen die Königsidee. Er wollte eigentlich – wenn man die Schrift ernst nimmt –, daß seine zwei Söhne die eigene Tradition fortsetzen. Da hat er aber Pech mit ihnen – wie das überhaupt eine Tragödie bei den großen Männern nicht nur in der Bibel, sondern bis heute ist. -

MÜLLER Abstract The behaviour and life history of the Israeli tiger moth, Olepa schleini WITT et al., 2005, that feeds on Ricinus is analysed and accords perfectly with the detailed description of a Ricinus-feeder mentioned in the Bible in the book of Jonah (4/7), demonstrating that the re-discovered and recently described moth is in fact Jonah’s Ricinus worm. Introduction Ancient peoples and civilisations showed a profound sensitivity for nature. All animals with possible harmful and beneficial impact on humans and their activities were studied in detail. This concerns not only the larger animals but also insects: In China, for example, the moth Bombyx mori was reared for silk production at least since 2700 BC. The interest in insects is also reflected by very early written descriptions of insect anatomy and metamorphosis by ARISTOTLE (384-322 BC) and PLINY THE ELDER (23-79 AC). The Bible also mentions many insects, e.g. locusts and grasshoppers (34 citations with ten different Hebrew names), moths (11 citations), and a great number of other insects, e.g. -
