Website Sign In/Log In 1. The preferred browser to edit site is GOOGLE CHROME. 2. Go to www.birdvilleschools.net 3. Click SIGN IN at top right-hand corner of website. You do not have to go to your own website or page to sign in. Reminder: Use your BISD network ID and password to access your website.

Create a New Page 1. Log into your site and click on SITE MANAGER (top right-hand corner) for workspace. 2. Click on New Page . 3. Select page type for your content. 4. Type Page Name: as it will appear on your site. 5. Click Save and Exit. 6. Drag over Apps that will utilized on your page and hold content.

Content Editor Content Editor is user friendly and equipped to meet Accessibility requirements for images and links.

Page Redirect Map a Page to a Website (URL) 1. Follow steps to CREATE A NEW PAGE or use existing page. 2. In Site Manager, navigate to the workspace where the page is located. 3. Click the Actions button to the right of the page. 4. Select Page Options from the drop-down list. 5. On the General , enter the URL for the site in the Map Section to Web Address field. • Enter the full address of the website (e.g., http://www.schoolwires.com). 6. Click Save.

Images **Images must be in .gif, .jpg or .png format prior to uploading to your website.

Insert an Image in the Content App: Here is how you insert an image in the Schoolwires Editor.

1. Place the cursor on the page where the image is to display. 2. Click the Insert Image . The Insert Image displays. 3. Select the import source of the image (Upload, Existing, Shared). 4. Click Continue. The Insert Image window displays. 5. Alternative Text: Enter a description of the image in the mandatory Alt. text field. 6. Adjust the Height and Width of the image as desired. 7. Click Insert Image. The page displays with the inserted image.

- OR –

Image App: 1. Click BROWSE button to select photo or upload. 2. Select the import source of the image (Upload, Existing, Shared). 3. Alternative Text: Enter a description of the image in the mandatory Alt. text field. 4. Click SAVE.

ADA Compliance – Images Make sure you have typed a description in the Alternative Text fields. If NOT, follow the steps below.

1. Click on image to select it. It will turn a shade of blue. 2. Right-click and select the Image icon for ADA compliance options 3. Update the link details a. Image description: Type meaningful description b. Image Title: retype the same image description c. Click OK

Insert a Link into a Content App:

Here is how you add a link in the Content App. 1. Click the Insert Link icon. The Insert/Edit Link dialog displays. 2. Insert a fully qualified web address in the Web Address field. 3. Enter the text you wish to display for the link in the Link Text field. 4. Choose a Target for your link: NEW window. 5. Click Ok. You return to your Content app in Edit Mode. 6. Click Save.

Add a Link to an Image in a Flex Editor App 1. In Site Manager, navigate to the Flex Editor App you wish to edit. 2. Position the cursor in the content area of the editor. 3. Click the Insert Image icon. 4. Click on the inserted image to select it. Square handles display on the borders of the image. 5. Click the Insert Link icon . The Insert Link dialog displays. 6. Select one of the following options from the Insert Link Wizard and follow the instructions. Your Site 1. Select a Site from the drop-down. 2. Select a Channel, Section, and Page. 3. Hint: To link to a homepage, just select a Site and a Page. 4. Click Insert Link Email Address 1. Enter the email address. 2. Click Insert Link Web Address 1. Enter the web address into the URL field. Note that "http://" is already populated. 2. Target - Open in New Window 3. Click Insert Link 2. Click Insert Link. When a visitor clicks on the image, the associated link is launched.

Insert a File Link in the Schoolwires Editor Here is how you insert a link to a file in the Schoolwires Editor. The app editor must have an Insert File Link button.

1. In Site Manager, navigate to the workspace containing the app in which you wish to insert a file link. 2. In the editor of the app, click Insert File Link icon . 3. In the Upload File tab, click Browse. 4. Navigate to the location of the file and select the file. 5. Type the Link Text that you would like to appear for the link. 6. Click the Target drop-down list and select an open option. Options are Open link in a new window or Open link in the same window. 7. Click Insert File.

Final Step: Properly identify hyperlinks to meet ADA web compliance 1. Right-click the for ADA compliance options 2. Select the Link icon 3. Update the link details: a. Text to display: describe the hyperlink b. Title: be more specific and at end type [opens in new window] c. Select New Window d. Click OK.

Modify Page Options Here's how to modify page options. 1. Sign-in and navigate to the Section Workspace. 2. Click on Actions to the right of the page. A drop-down list displays. 3. Select Page Options. The Page Options dialog displays. 4. The General tab allows you to: • Change the page name. • Hide this page from website navigation. • Always show pages nested under this page. • Show bullet image next to this page. • Map this page to another web address. 5. Select the Display Duration tab to set the period of time a page will display on the end-user website. 6. Select the Advanced tab to: a. Permit visitors to view the page faster by accessing an already saved version by enabling caching of the page. b. Apply Meta Data (Description and Keywords) to you page. 7. Click Save. The Summary tab of the Section Workspace displays.

Set Display Duration for Pages You may specify a start date, and end date or both. If you add a start date, the page displays on your website at 12:00 AM on the date specified. If you add an end date, the page no longer displays as of 11:59 PM, on the date specified. If you enter no start or end date, the page always displays, provided the page Status is set to active. • If you enter both a start and an end date, the page displays on your site within the specified date range, provided the page Status is set to active. • If you enter only a start date, the page displays on your site from the date specified forward, provided the page Status is set to active. • If you enter only an end date, the page displays on your site immediately until the specified end date, provided the page Status is set to active.

1. Click ACTIONS button. 2. Click on Page Options. 3. Click on Display Duration tab. 4. Enter appropriate dates and SAVE.

Files and Folders Upload Files to Files & Folders To upload documents or images to your Files & Folders, follow these steps. Note that you cannot upload .exe files. 1. Navigate to the relevant Workspace. a. Click Files & Folders under the Common Tools dashboard. The Files & Folders window displays. b. Click the Subfolder where you wish to upload to (See: Create Subfolders in Files & Folders) c. Click Upload. The Upload Files dialog displays. d. Click Browse. The Select Files(s) to Upload dialog displays. e. Browse out and choose the file or files you wish to upload. f. Click Open. The Upload Files dialog displays with the selected file(s) listed. g. Click Upload. The designated Subfolder displays listing the uploaded file(s). h. ADA web compliance PRIOR to uploading, employees should review all files and check for ADA issues with accessibility checkers set up within Microsoft Office Suite or Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, etc.

page 5 Tables Insert a TABLE APP: To insert a Table in the Schoolwires Editor: a. Select the Table App icon and drag over to the page on left. b. c. Click on Table App icon and select number of rows and columns. d. Identify Header Row and Header Column e. Click Save.

Making Table ADA Compliant 1. Table Caption: Type title describing content 2. Table Summary Type more detail description of table content. 3. Table Style: Select style 4. Click SAVE at the top of page.

Calendar Add Events to the Calendar Here's how you add an event to the calendar: 1. Click on New Event or double click on the date. The Event window displays. 2. Enter the Event Name, the Start Date, and the End Date. All other fields are optional. 3. Click Save.

Announcements Add Announcements with Activation and Expiration Dates Here's how you add an announcement: 1. Click on New Announcement. The Announcement window displays. 2. Enter the Announcement TITLE, add content (text/images) in body area. 3. Click on Display Duration tab to set Start Date and the End Date of announcement. All other fields are optional. 4. Click Save.

Edit EMBED Code 1. Open or create page. 2. Select Embed Code App. 3. Drag to page on left. 4. Click to open App and paste embed code. 5. Click SAVE.

Change PAGE LAYOUT 1. Navigate to the Page. 2. Click Actions to the right of the page. A drop down list displays. 3. Click Edit Page. The page displays in Edit Mode. 4. Click Layout. The page displays in Design Mode. 5. Click Layout. The current content layout displays together with alternate content layouts. 6. Choose a new layout by clicking on it. A green check mark displays. 7. Click Apply. The page displays in design mode revealing the new Content Layout.

Ally Blackboard’s Accessibility Tool Tool helps create accessible content; assists staff with accessibility best practice, identify areas requiring additional support and more.

1. Log into website 2. View your Ally Accessibility Report and Score 3. Click on Overview to details on page errors. 4. Three levels: Severe (A), Major (AA) and Minor (AAA) A- must support, AA-should support, AAA-may support 5. Follow instructions on how to repair errors on pages.

Videos

1. Go to www.youtube.com, select video, preview from START to FINISH. 2. Click SHARE below the video and click on EMBED. 3. Click SHOW MORE. 4. Uncheck box for SHOW SUGGESTED VIDEOS WHEN THE VIDEO FINISHES. 5. Select and Copy the EMBED code (Ctrl + C) 6. Go back to new page and click on VIDEO EMBED CODE APP 7. Paste the video code previously copied from YOUTUBE (Ctrl + V) 8. Click Save. Note: This page can be used to embed other content code

Tip: Always watch the video from start to finish. Select videos that are short in duration. If a video cannot keep your attention, then it will not keep your audience’s attention either.

Create Webpage with Video Embed

1. Go to www.birdvilleschools.net 2. Log into Schoolwires. Click NEW PAGE 3. Type title of page (Example: Math-Angles Video) 4. Click Flex with Video Embed pre-designed page. 5. Click Save & Continue. Flex Editor app is for a video introduction and the Video Embed Code App is for the code. 6. Paste video embed code. 7. Click SAVE.
