Disposable Children?

"The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts - a child - as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters...The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign." – 1994. (priestsforlife.org)

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church www.stjohnevang.org 8 St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church www.stjohnevang.org 9 ST. FRANCIS CENTER NEWS 1st Quarter Report (July, Aug, Sept.) Please review this report and allow it to reflect the generosity of our parishioners, and the dedication of our volunteers who diligently sort and prepare your donated items for sale in our Thrift Shop. The money generated from these sales and your financial donations are used for utility assistance, emergency shelter, hygiene items, and food supplies for our brothers and sisters in Lowndes County. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we assist needy families who come to the Center and families moving from a shelter to a new living space, or those experiencing a fire in their homes with clothes, food, hygiene items, towels, sheets etc. (These are just a few examples.) On the weekend of October 12th and 13th the SFC participated in the parish Ministry Fair. If you did not have a chance to sign-up for ministry opportunities at the Center, please call me at 229- 242-8656. I invite you to “Come and SEE” our place, our volunteers at work, our customers in the Thrift Shop and the people to whom we minister. If circumstances do not allow you to be physically present at the Center, there are other ways through which you can be involved. I would like to share with you a quote from the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, (Gaudium et Spes, Paul VI, Dec. 7, 1965): “The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men and women of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of .” Thank you for your on-going support and generosity! May God bless you and your family with abundantly!

Gratefully, Sr Nuala

P.S.—The St. Francis Center is also in need of gently used blankets, and winter clothing of all sizes for men, women and children.
