C HILDREN Home is Holy: Surprising Blessings! We are blessed by the Lord all the time. How do we show God that we are grateful for the blessings he showers on us? One way is to begin by saying thank you for our blessings and remembering God has given them to us—we haven’t earned them on our own. Today’s Gos- pel shows us that if we listen to God and his commands, he will surprise us with blessings, just as Simon Peter was surprised by the HUGE catch of fish. Sometimes we’ll receive enor- mous blessings that we can’t miss (like Peter’s catch of fish), but other times the blessings and graces will be small and it will take some thinking to recognize them. Let’s not forget to thank God for those little gifts too! Today children at the 9 am Mass will receive a bag of “fish”—surprising little blessings to brighten your day! Safeguard the Children Committee The safety of the children at St. John Fisher is one of our primary concerns. The Safeguard the Children Committee meets twice a year to review safety procedures and concerns here at the Parish. If you are interested in being part of this important committee, please contact Margaret Johnson. Our next meeting will take place on February 25th. Call (310) 377-4573 for more information. We Are Never Alone: A Lenten presentation for Parents, February 24 Parenting speaker Pamela Hurwitz will return with a special message for all parents on Sunday, February 24, 10:30- 11:45 am in Barrett Hall. Lent gives us a chance to ponder the life of Christ. As parents we are on our own journeys, and we can see Christ calling us to himself through our blessings, sufferings and defeats. Come be reminded of the HOPE that Easter promises in the midst of our messy realities. Be inspired to make this the best Lent ever in your homes. We have a seat saved just for you! Confirmation Classes Year 1 Confirmation Classes Sunday, February 10, at 2:50 pm Candidates Only in Barrett Hall OR Monday, February 11, at 6:50 pm Candidates Only in Barrett Hall Year 2 Confirmation Classes Sunday, February 24, at 2:50 pm Candidates Only in Barrett Hall Monday, February 25 at 6:50 pm Candidates Only in Barrett Hall Gospel Recap: "Let God’s Power Stun You Too" The point of Luke’s story in the Gospel this week was that Peter, James and John had fished all night without success. They were tired and frustrated. But they lowered their nets one more time just to humor Jesus. And you know the rest of this story. Inspired by Jesus’ awesome power, they dropped everything and followed him. Just like Peter, we can get tired and frustrated, especially hearing all the bad news in the world. But God is working miracles each day. We need only look around to realize it. Let’s keep our eyes open for people doing good things--both big and small--in your family, in your school, or community. Let those examples show you God’s love for the world. Know that God’s deep love for us inspires people to heroically reshape this world into God’s Kingdom here on earth. And use those who inspire you to propel you to work some of your own small miracles, too.
