Safe Environment for The Protection of Children and Young People

Some things I thought I said during my talks at Masses during 2 different weekends, but I didn’t. First, I would like to thank all of you for being so attentive as I spoke about the Safe Environment for children and young people in our parishes. I hope you have a better understanding in what it takes to have a Safe Environment.

Next, if you have received any correspondence from me either in December 2018 or in 2019 in the form of a Waiver in lieu of Fingerprinting or the Child Abuse History renewal, please have them filled out and back to me as soon as possible. These are important in the Back-Ground Checking process.

Also, in speaking to some of you after Mass, it has become apparent that you have completed the Protecting God’s Children for Adults in the past. I do have some certificates. But just by attending this class, does not mean you have the clearances you need to volunteer in one of the 63 ministries. You must register in the Diocesan Database! Then and only then can we work on any other background checks/clearances needed as per the Diocese’s guidelines for Safe Environments.

Also, if by chance anyone has clearances for their every day , then provide me copies of the clearances, and this may eliminate duplication of obtaining certain clearances.

Finally, the reason I have been appointed the Safe Environment Coordinator (SEC) for our parishes, is to assist anyone volunteering in the ministries. This entails completion of all your back-ground checks and to receiving the appropriate clearances in a timely manner to become compliant.

Thank you again for volunteering in the many ministries.
