Alternate Reading Instruction

1. Winston Prep has remote summer programs in , New Jersey, and Connecticut. 2. Everyone Reading (www.everyonereading.org 212-691-1930) has a free spring reading program for ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ current fourth graders (born 2011). The program takes place via Zoom and begins during the mornings of February 15-19, 2021 and ten Saturdays thereafter (ends May 8, 2021). The lessons are one hour long and begin at 9:00 or 11:00 a.m. Everyone Reading also offers free information and referral services. Contact [email protected] for more information. There are also free monthly support group meetings for ​ ​ adults with dyslexia. For more information, please contact Dr. Elizabeth Auricchio at [email protected]. ​

3. The Churchill School and Center (www.churchillschool.com) has a free afterschool reading program ​ ​ ​ called the Reading Initiative which begins in late October and runs through early June. Due to the current COVID climate, the sessions are offered virtually. For more information, please visit churchillschoolnyc.org/center/the-reading-initiative. ​

4. Learning Lab has free after-school tutoring run by their Department of Special Education, for students in grades 1-12. Due to the current COVID climate, the tutoring is offered twice a week for 75 minutes via Zoom or Google Meet. Students must have an IEP and be able to attend the tutoring program two afternoons a week. Contact Carol Deere for information and an application. [email protected]

5. Literacy Space at Hunter College (www.hunter.cuny.edu/literacy-space) provides free literacy ​ ​ instruction to students in grades 1-8. Instruction runs in the Fall and Spring semesters. The literacy tutoring is currently offered online and will continue through Spring 2021. Contact Nadine Bryce for information and application. [email protected]

6. NYU Literacy Clinic (steinhardt.nyu.edu/programs/literacy-education/nyu-literacy-clinic) currently ​ ​ offers remote services to students in grades 1-12. Next clinical program begins Feb. 9- May 6, 2021. The ​ sessions are remote every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Both the legal guardian and ​ ​ ​ child's teacher must complete the electronic application. The application period ends by Dec. 31st 2020. 7. READ718 in currently offers remote 1:1 reading instruction for children in grades 3-8. The program is currently accepting registration for the winter cycle, January- March 2021 and spans 10 weeks. For more information, please visit https://read718.org/programs. ​ ​
