Leoni was highly valued in his time; also, he is said to be one of the creators of dramma per musica genre, and his religious compositions served as model examples of counterpoint for many centuries. The first part of the text presents the state of research concerning the life and work of the artist; then, the second part con- tains his biography. The last part discusses Leoni’s works. Finally, the rank of his output is regarded. Keywords Leone Leoni, small-scale concerto, madrigal, early Baroque The following article is a pioneer attempt in Polish literature to develop a synthetic resume of life and art of Leone Leoni (ca. 1560–1627), an Italian composer. Today forgotten, he was a highly valued artist in his epoch. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of dramma per musica and, 59 Kwartalnik Młodych Muzykologów UJ, No. 32 (1/2017) through the centuries, his church music was used by music theorists as models of music rhetoric and concertato style in the compositions for small ensemble. The paper has been planned as an introduction to the cycle of arti- cles dedicated to Leone Leoni, and because of that it is general in the character. -

THE BAROQUE PAPACY Ary Papal Court, the Roman Curia and the Papal State Were Constructed

It delineates the behaviour and dilemmas of ❧ Rome in the ghts against the Turks, in the irty Years’ War, and in ) the struggles with the Protestants and the numerous con icts with the éter usor Catholic States. In addition, the book describes in detail the rst real example of globalisation, namely the worldwide spread of missions, in addition to providing accounts of the formation of new religious move- – ments, Galileo’s trial and the ordeals of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin ( Mary. The Legacy of SS. Cyril and Methodius in the Counterreformation
Francis J. Thomson The Legacy of SS. Cyril and Methodius in the Counterreformation The council of Trent and the question of Scripture and liturgy in the Vernacular, together with an account of the subsequent consequences for the Slavo-Latin (glagolitic) rite and the Bible in Croatian translation Nominibus auctorum aut oblivioni aut fabulis traditis, res autem manebat. Eleutherius Scotus Summary At the time of the Reformation the use of modern vernaculars in Scripture and liturgy became one of the hallmarks of Protestantism. When the Old Testament had been translated into Greek and the New into Latin those languages had been vernaculars but their use could be justified by an appeal to the trilingual super- scription on the Cross. This, of course, could not be invoked for the use of the Glagolitic rite in Slavonic in Croatia, Dalmatia and Istria but it was widely be- lieved in the 16th century that St. Jerome had translated the Old Testament not only into Latin but also into his native "Dalmatian", viz. Slavonic, a fact first referred to in the Reformation controversies by Hieronymus Emser in 1524 in his rejection of Martin Luther's form of the mass of 1523. This Hieronymian theory of the origin of the Glagolitic rite remained unchallenged at the Council of Trent and meant that a vernacular translation could not per se be banned. The debates at the Council and the differences between the draft decrees and the final versions are examined: in the latter there is no longer any reference to Latin as a divine instrument consecrated by its use on the Cross or to the greater reverence for the holy mysteries which its use instilled. -

Chisholm A QUESTION OF POWER: COUNT, ARISTOCRACY AND BISHOP OF TRENT THE PROGRESS OF ARCHDUKE FERDINAND II INTO THE TYROL IN 15671 Following the death of Emperor Ferdinand I on 25 July, 1564, his son, Archduke Ferdinand II, succeeded him as Count of the Tyrol. The new prince wrote the Upper Austrian Privy Council (Regierung) in Innsbruck three days later from Prague, where he was still Gov- ernor of Bohemia.2 He noted that his arrival would be delayed and or- 1 I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Manfred Rupert of the Ti- roler Landesarchiv (TLA) for the many hours he has helped me to read and deci- pher Old German. 2 The Privy Council was the head of the Upper Austrian government. Its au- thority extended over the territorial complex of the Tyrol and Further Austria. The Privy Council was centred in the Tyrolean capital, Innsbruck; the Further Austrian government, centred in the Alsatian town, Ensisheim, was administra- tively subordinate to the Privy Council. Hence, the archduke, as his father, cor- responded with the Privy Council in regard to both Tyrolean and Further Austri- an affairs. However, contemporaries also referred to the Council loosely as the “Tyrolean Privy Council”, as for example, when the archduke addressed a letter to unsern Tyrolischen Regierung; TLA, Ferdinandea, Position 23, Carton 28, 19 November, 1566. The association of the Privy Council with the Tyrol was no doubt a habit of mind, as it was centred in the Tyrol, dominated by Tyroleans and almost two-thirds of its business was taken up by the Tyrol: TLA, An die Fürstli- che Durchlaucht (AFD), 19 October, 1565, fol. -
Disentangling Subsystem Dynamics the Search for Peace and Cooperation
8th Conference of the Italian Standing Group on International Relations Disentangling Subsystem Dynamics The Search for Peace and Cooperation Trento June 26-27, 2015 CONFERENCE PROGRAM Graphic Design Moira Osti | FBK 2 SGRI 2015 Dear PhD Students, Colleagues, and Friends, It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Italy for the 8th Standing Group on International Relations Conference (SGRI 2015), which is organized for the fourth time in Trento, by the Bruno Kessler Foundation’s Research Center on International Politics and Con ict Resolution (FBK-CERPIC). The SGRI 2015 conference will be held at FBK (Humanistic Hub), located at Via Santa Croce 77, from the 26th to the 27th of June, 2015. The SGRI was created in 2004, following a 2003 proposal by SISP, aimed at creating thematic groups inside the Association to provide a means of collaboration between scholars specializing in the same research area. Since its foundation, SGRI has played a key role in fostering scienti c research on international politics issues in Italy. The annual SGRI Conference represents a unique opportunity for scholars seeking to network with other researchers and to discuss their own research projects with the international relations community. SGRI 2015 brings together researchers, professors, and international scholars working in the eld of International Politics, to provide useful feedback on research presented by academics and PhD students. This year’s topic will be: « Disentangling Subsystem Dynamics. The Search for Peace and Cooperation ». The selected papers have been organized into 10 Panels of 4 to 12 papers, and are grouped around several topics. As is evident from the following program, this year’s conference has put a marked emphasis on regions and regional dynamics. -
