Leoni was highly valued in his time; also, he is said to be one of the creators of dramma per musica genre, and his religious compositions served as model examples of counterpoint for many centuries. The first part of the text presents the state of research concerning the life and work of the artist; then, the second part con- tains his biography. The last part discusses Leoni’s works. Finally, the rank of his output is regarded. Keywords Leone Leoni, small-scale concerto, madrigal, early Baroque The following article is a pioneer attempt in Polish literature to develop a synthetic resume of life and art of Leone Leoni (ca. 1560–1627), an Italian composer. Today forgotten, he was a highly valued artist in his epoch. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of dramma per musica and, 59 Kwartalnik Młodych Muzykologów UJ, No. 32 (1/2017) through the centuries, his church music was used by music theorists as models of music rhetoric and concertato style in the compositions for small ensemble. The paper has been planned as an introduction to the cycle of arti- cles dedicated to Leone Leoni, and because of that it is general in the character. -

Century Historiography of the Radical Reformation
Toward a Definition of Sixteenth - Century habaptism: Twentieth - Century Historiography of the Radical Reformation James R. Coggins Winnipeg "To define the essence is to shape it afresh." - Ernst Troeltsch Twentieth-century Anabaptist historiography has somewhat of the character of Hegelian philosophy, consisting of an already established Protestant-Marxist thesis, a Mennonite antithesis and a recent synthesis. The debate has centred on three major and related issues: geographic origin, intellectual sources, and essence. Complicating these issues has been confusion over the matter of categorization: Just who is to be included among the Anabaptists and who should be assigned to other groups? Indeed, what are the appropriate categories, or groups, in the sixteenth century? This paper will attempt to unravel some of the tangled debate that has gone on concerning these issues. The Protestant interpretation of Anabaptism has the longest aca- demic tradition, going back to the sixteenth century. Developed by such Protestant theologians and churchmen as Bullinger, Melanchthon, Men- ius, Rhegius and Luther who wrote works defining and attacking Ana- baptism, this interpretation arose out of the Protestant understanding of the church. Sixteenth-century Protestants believed in a single universal church corrupted by the Roman Catholic papacy but reformed by them- selves. Anyone claiming to be a Christian but not belonging to the church Joitnlal of Mennonite Stitdies Vol. 4,1986 184 Journal ofMennonite Studies (Catholic or Protestant) was classed as a heretic,' a member of the mis- cellaneous column of God's sixteenth-century army. For convenience all of these "others" were labelled "Anabaptists." Protestants saw the Anabaptists as originating in Saxony with Thomas Muntzer and the Zwickau prophets in 1521 and spreading in subsequent years to Switzerland and other parts of northern Europe. -

The Roots of Anabaptist Empathetic Solidarity, Nonviolent Advocacy, and Peacemaking
The Roots of Anabaptist Empathetic Solidarity, Nonviolent Advocacy, and Peacemaking John Derksen Introduction uch of Mennonite nonviolent advocacy and peacebuild- ing today finds its roots in sixteenth-century Anabaptism. But Msixteenth-century Anabaptists were diverse. In keeping with the polygenesis viewSAMPLE of Anabaptist origins, this paper assumes diversity in the geography, origins, cultures, shaping influences, spiritual orientations, attitudes to violence, and other expressions of Anabaptists.1 We define Anabaptists as those who accepted (re)baptism or believer’s baptism and the implications of that choice. Various Anabaptists had sectarian, ascetic, spiri- tualist, social revolutionary, apocalyptic, rationalistic, or other orientations, and the distinctions between them were often blurred. Geographically, they emerged in Switzerland in 1525, in South Germany-Austria in 1526, and in the Netherlands in 1530. Many agree that the Anabaptists displayed 1. Stayer, Packull, and Deppermann, “Monogenesis,” 83–121; Coggins, “Defini- tion”; Stayer, Sword. Surveys of Anabaptist history that incorporate the polygenesis perspective include Snyder, Anabaptist, and Weaver, Becoming Anabaptist. Works that explore Anabaptist unity beyond polygenesis include Weaver, Becoming Anabaptist, and Roth and Stayer, Companion. 13 © 2016 The Lutterworth Press 14 Historical Conditions of Anabaptist-Mennonite Peacebuilding Approaches both Protestant and Catholic characteristics in different configurations. “Negatively, there was anger against social, economic, and religious abuses . but responses to this discontent varied widely. Positively, the ‘Word of God’ served as a rallying point for all, but differences . emerged over how it was understood and used.”2 While Swiss Anabaptists tended to fa- vor sectarianism after the 1525 Peasants’ War, South German and Austrian Anabaptists tended more toward spiritualism, and early Dutch Anabaptists tended toward apocalyptic thinking. -

Re-evaluation report: framework and guidance This is one of a set of three publications. The other two are The Charter and The journey continues: a guide to re-evaluation. Together the trio forms guidance on how to remain a member of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism for a further five years. The Charter Principles for Sustainable Tourism The underlying aims of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas are to - increase awareness of, and support for, Europe’s protected areas as a fundamental part of our heritage, that should be preserved for, and enjoyed by, current and future generations; - improve the sustainable development and management of tourism in protected areas, which takes account of the needs of the environment, local residents, local businesses and visitors. The Charter principles involve working in partnership, preparing and implementing a strategy, and addressing key issues. Charter protected areas make a series of commitments to achieve the underlying aims: 1 To involve all those implicated by tourism in and around the protected area in its development and management. A permanent forum, or equivalent arrangement, should be established between the protected-area authority, local municipalities, conservation and community organisations and representatives of the tourism industry. Links with regional and national bodies should be developed and maintained. 2 To prepare and implement a sustainable tourism strategy and action plan for the protected area. The strategy should be based on careful -

Studi Trentini di Scienze Naturali Vol. 68 (1991) Acta Biologica VINCENZO FERRI L'erpetofauna della Val di N o n (Trentino occidentale, Trento)* ABSTRACT FERRI V. 1993 - L'erpetofauna della Val di Non (Trentino occidentale, Trento). [The herpetofauna in Val di Non (West Trentino, Trento)] - Studi trent. Sci. nat., 68, Acta bio!.: 313-348. A starting point for this work was the intention of making a comparison between the present herpeto-faunistic situation in a precise piace, «Valle di Nom> in the west of Trentino, and that of the last century, as outlined in the works of Edoardo De Betta (1822-1896), the illustrious naturalist from the same piace. The data collected after three years of field research, bibliographic verification, inspection of public and private herpetological collections and interviews with local people and environmental operators, reveal that substantial changes have taken place since the research of Edoardo De Betta. The number of the present species is reduced - 15 species remain out of the 21 mentioned in the past (DE BETTA, 1852, 1857, 1885) - and the condition of the various populations appears to be seriously compromised. This situation is likely to be connected to the numerous environmental changes happened in this Valley: forest and pasture situated on tablelands and geologica! terraces and large natural moist zones in the last century; extended zones used for fruit-growing (apple-trees) up to a height of 1000 m, reclamation of land and direct contro! of the irrigation network today.
