JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT COULDN’T GET ANY BETTER… Summer on the Waterfront features food by Franklin Fountain, Shane , Federal Donuts and Garces Group

PHILADELPHIA, PA (May 4, 2015): Lights, hammocks, floating barges, fried chicken sandwiches, sundaes, pork belly bao buns, bacon knockwurst, funnel and cotton . These are just some of the things to look forward to at Spruce Street Harbor Park Presented by Univest/Valley Green Bank (SSHP) and Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest. This summer, the Delaware River Waterfront Corp (DRWC) is pleased to announce an expanded summer line-up of restaurant collaborations: Franklin Fountain, Shane Confectionery, Federal Donuts, Frozen Delights and FOUR different Garces Group locations.

Each restaurant throughout the two different parks will feature food offerings unique to the waterfront, served out of retrofitted cargo containers and modified food trucks. To complement the huge selection of food, both SSHP and Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest will serve a variety of local beers (15 taps at SSHP!), wines and summer cocktails. This new food program, in conjunction with waterfront restaurants Moshulu, ChartHouse, Keating’s River Grill, La Peg, Morgan’s Pier, Hibachi, and Dave and Busters, is helping to make the waterfront an entire dining district.

Franklin Fountain and Shane Confectionery: A summer along the water is not complete without ice cream, salt water and . To please the SSHP and Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest visitors’ sweet tooth, DRWC is coordinating with the Berley Brothers, the confectioners behind both Franklin Fountain and Shane Confectionary, to bring both of these concepts to the waterfront.

Spruce Street Harbor Park will house the S.S. Franklin Fountain, a shipping container inspired by 30s and 40s naval ships. The S.S. Franklin Fountain will feature:  The Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich, one of the most popular items, which will be reappearing only at SSHP.  The Mighty Warship, a unique creation designed exclusively for SSHP, and inspired by the Olympia, will consist of a waffle boat, 2 scoops of ice cream, 2 toppings and Whipped cream with a cherry on top.  A variety of other ice creams and cones will supplement the menu, guaranteeing that there’s something for everyone.

A vintage-carnival themed outpost of Shane Confectionery will set up shop in the Lodge at Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest. This location will feature and made onsite as well as a variety of house-made , salt water taffy and fudge, all summer staples that complement an outdoor summer roller skating rink. If that wasn’t enough, a period-themed photo booth will be set up complete with vintage-inspired dress-up clothes and props worthy of a boardwalk carnival.

Federal Donuts: Federal Donuts, part of Philadelphia’s acclaimed restaurant group Cook N Solo, is bringing their donuts and fried chicken concept landside at Port FedNuts, located on the boardwalk at SSHP. This modified shipping container will exclusively be serving the first Federal Donuts’ fried chicken sandwich.

The menu features:  Cold Brewed Iced Coffee  Fried Chicken Sandwich with American cheese, buttermilk ranch seasoning, Red Hot mayo & dill pickles  Bag O Donuts, 6 mini cinnamon donuts

Garces Group: Garces Group will return to SSHP and Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, expanding their Blue Anchor restaurant into four casual, yet unique food and beverage offerings.

Last year’s favorite item, the Village Burger, will be back at The Lodge at Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, with rotating burger specials alongside fries and the house made veggie burger.

This year the floating barges and shipping containers that housed the Blue Anchor will be a revival of one of Garces Group’s beloved concepts, . Patrons can enjoy popular menu items in a casual setting, featuring Chifa’s signature pork belly bao buns, chicken wings with spicy garlic- sauce, and glazed pork ribs.

On the boardwalk at SSHP, Garces Group will offer grilled summer staples of franks and sausages including a Chicago-style hot dog; bacon knockwurst with -apple salad; and specials like sausage, sauerkraut, and lager fondue-topped fries. On weekends, the Distrito Taco Truck will be serving traditional Mexican street tacos.

Frozen Delights: Food concessionaire Daniel Rivera, a waterfront partner for many years, will continue to serve staple summer delights: soft ice cream, hot dogs, funnel cake and more across SSHP, Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest and the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing.

Franklin Fountain and Shane Confectionery Owned and operated by brothers Ryan and Eric Berley, The Franklin Fountain is an authentic re-creation of an American ice cream parlor and soda fountain, circa 1915. Ice cream made on-premises is scooped and served in cones, sundaes and floated upon ice cream sodas drawn from a 1904 bronze & onyx soda fountain. Hot fudge, and other toppings are made using fresh, local ingredients. Soda jerks are dressed in period attire, serving customers an authentic early 1900s experience in a historic building with ornate tin ceilings, marble counters and mosaic penny tile floors.

Shane Confectionery is the oldest continuously-run confectionery in the United States, established in 1863. The Shane family took over the business in 1911, installing elaborately carved woodwork, stained glass and curved windows to showcase the chocolates and confections made onsite. Ninety-nine years later, in 2010, the business transitioned to the Berley Brothers who own the nearby Franklin Fountain and whom embarked on a meticulous restoration of the building and business. continue to be made on-site, with an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients, seasonal specialties and old-fashioned quality.

Federal Donuts Restaurateurs Steve Cook and Michael Solomonov (Zahav, Percy Street Barbecue), coffee shop impresarios Tom Henneman and Bob Logue (Bodhi Coffee) and food writer Felicia D'Ambrosio opened the first Federal Donuts in October, 2011.
