(After Price)” It took much longer than Rock ever expected, but at last, he has released a solo album. The Heltah Skeltah member pays homage to his longtime friend and partner-in-rhyme, the late Sean Price, with Rockness A.P. (After Price). Rock’s 14-track debut includes the very personal title track, which details the ups and downs of his career as well as his inability to resolve old issues with Price. The Boot Camp Clik MC’s LP isn’t meant to be a gloomy experience though. There’s plenty of entertaining cuts featuring the likes of Raekwon, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Tek and Steele of Smif-N-Wessun, Buckshot, Ras Kass and M.O.P. View the stream, cover art and tracklist for Rock’s Rockness A.P. below. (The original version of this article was published on August 20, 2017 and can found below.) Rock is honoring the late Sean Price with the title for his next album. The Boot Camp Clik MC has unveiled the cover art and tracklist for a new solo album titled Rockness A.P. (After Price) . The project is Rock’s first release since the death of Price in 2015. Sean P’s legacy has continued on through posthumous projects, such as the recently released Imperius Rex , but now Tha Rockness Monstah gets a chance to honor his Heltah Skeltah cohort with an album of his own. Rockness A.P. features 14 tracks with guest appearances by Buckshot, Raekwon, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Smif-N-Wessun, M.O.P. and Ras Kass among others. The LP is due out on September 22. One thing is clear: a new generation of Australian artists is appropriating rap in their own way, injecting a great dose of African music and deep sounds. But since its emergence in the late 1980s, local rap has always stood out from its American big brother. Often brilliantly. Twenty years ago, the French Touch invaded the clubs and radio stations all over the world, putting France high on the map of electronic music. Qobuz tells you the story of 10 records which have left their mark on this golden era of French producers. Daniel Dumile, alias MF DOOM, lived a thousand lives and his career was a succession of false starts and bright flashes. Before passing away on the 31st of October, 2020, Dumile had been a young virtuoso rapper welcomed with open arms by the music industry, then an outcast that sneaked back onto the scene through the back door after years of wandering (now masked), the 'go-to-guy' of independent rap during the 2000s and then some kind of Indie messiah as dubbed by Thom Yorke and Flying Lotus. Elusive, whimsical, a trickster and a money maker, DOOM rewrote the rules of rap music, rubbed people up the wrong way and paved the way for a whole generation of MCs. Rock Rockness A.P. The debut solo studio album from east coast rapper Rock, "Rockness A.P.", will also be his first release since the death of his Heltah Skeltah partner Sean Price. Due out September 22nd, collaborations on the LP include Raekwon, Method Man, Buckshot, Inspectah Deck, and many more. Track list: 1. Just Rap 2. Wishin (feat. Kuniva) 3. GW BaG 4. Camp - Wu (feat. Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Buckshot and more. I guess Rock needs to die too now if he wants anyone to pay attention to his music. he has a huge fan base. foh! Oo shit starting my listen now, the singles were pretty good so hopefully it's consistent. there a few bangers on here. instrumentals go hard. I'll cut/paste what I said in the older thread. This is surprisingly good. I say that because Rock has never really shown me anything resembling an ability to carry whole songs by himself, and on this album he carries it off. Some great wordplay, some pretty personal lyrics to go with the usual gangster stuff. GW B&G, Poof, FaxMachine and the title track all hit the hardest for me so far.

Or: I vinyled so hard that my bank balance has gone up the wazoo. The end result of vinyling is a record collection, which is defned as a bad idea (hoarding, duplicating, upgrading) often turned into a good idea (a saleable archive). If you’re reading this, you’ve gone down the rabbit hole like the rest of us. What is record collecting? Is it a doomed yet psychologically powerful wish to recapture that frst thrill of adolescent recognition or is it a quite understandable impulse to preserve and enjoy totemic artefacts from the frst - perhaps the only - great age of a truly mass art form, a mass youth culture? Fingering a particularly juicy 45 by the Stooges, Sweet or Sylvester, you could be forgiven for answering: fuck it, let’s boogie! But, you know, you’re here and so are we so, to quote Double Dee and Steinski, what does it all mean? Are you looking for - to take a few possibles - Kate Bush picture discs, early 80s Japanese synth on the Vanity label, European Led Zeppelin 45’s (because of course they did not deign to release singles in the UK), or vastly overpriced and not so good druggy LPs from the psychedelic fatso’s stall (Rainbow Ffolly, we salute you)? Or are you just drifting, browsing, going where the mood and the vinyl takes you? That’s where Utrecht scores.

  • The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia
The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia by Sandra C Zichermann A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education Sociology in Education Ontario Institute for Studies in Education University of Toronto © Copyright by Sandra C Zichermann 2013 The Effects of Hip-Hop and Rap on Young Women in Academia Sandra C Zichermann Doctor of Education Sociology in Education University of Toronto 2013 Abstract This thesis investigates the rise of the cultures and music of hip-hop and rap in the West and its effects on its female listeners and fans, especially those in academia. The thesis consists of two parts. First I conducted a content analysis of 95 lyrics from the book, Hip-Hop & Rap: Complete Lyrics for 175 Songs (Spence, 2003). The songs I analyzed were performed by male artists whose lyrics repeated misogynist and sexist messages. Second, I conducted a focus group with young female university students who self-identify as fans of hip-hop and/or rap music. In consultation with my former thesis supervisor, I selected women enrolled in interdisciplinary programmes focused on gender and race because they are equipped with an academic understanding of the potential damage or negative effects of anti-female or negative political messaging in popular music. My study suggests that the impact of hip-hop and rap music on young women is both positive and negative, creating an overarching feeling of complexity for some young female listeners who enjoy music that is infused with some lyrical messages they revile.

Somerset/Stereo Fidelity by David Edwards, Patrice Eyries & Mike Callahan © 2018 by Mike Callahan Somerset/Stereo Fidelity Records Discography Somerset Records was a division of Miller International Co. located in Media Pennsylvania. David L Miller was the President and had previously owned, Essex Records and Trans-World Records. Somerset was started in 1958. The output of the label was popular, jazz and classical. Of the first 63 releases on Somerset, 62 of them were straight reissues of Trans-World albums. After Somerset/Stereo Fidelity, Miller was involved with two other budget labels Alshire and Sutton. The Sales Manager was Joe Martin and Miller handled A&R. Somerset was a budget label whose albums listed for sale for $1.98, when most albums sold for $3.98 in the ‘50s and ‘60s. A subsidiary label was Stereo Fidelity, the only difference between the two labels was that the monaural record was a Somerset and the stereo record was on the Stereo Fidelity label. The numbers were the same. Main Series Canadian LP’s in this series did not use the last two zeros, for example SF-12700 was SF-127, leading to endless confusion about the Somerset release numbers. Niguz Talk Shit. Who Got Da Props? Ack Like U Want It. Black Moon‘s debut album. Release date: October 19, 1993. The album was produced by DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt of Da Beatminerz. Enta da Stage features the debut of underground Hip Hop duo Smif-n- Wessun, as well as appearances from Havoc of Mobb Deep and Dru Ha, the co-founder of Duck Down Records. Despite being critically acclaimed and having two singles that charted on the Billboard Hot 100 (“Who Got da Props?” and “I Got Cha Opin”), the album sold poorly, and is often overlooked in favor of subsequent East Coast albums such as Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) , Illmatic , Liquid Swords , Ready to Die , Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… , and The Infamous . Nonetheless, Enta da Stage preceded those releases and served as a precursor to the resurgence of the New York Hip Hop scene in the mid-1990s. Much of the acclaim the album received was due to the performance of lead MC Buckshot, who originally went by the name Buckshot Shorty. Ten of the fourteen tracks on the album are Buckshot solo tracks, and he appears on every song but “Son Get Wrec”. Buck, who was eighteen at the time of the recording, was a young man trying to establish himself and his crew in the hip hop world.
