Somerset/Stereo Fidelity by David Edwards, Patrice Eyries & Mike Callahan © 2018 by Mike Callahan Somerset/Stereo Fidelity Records Discography Somerset Records was a division of Miller International Co. located in Media Pennsylvania. David L Miller was the President and had previously owned, Essex Records and Trans-World Records. Somerset was started in 1958. The output of the label was popular, jazz and classical. Of the first 63 releases on Somerset, 62 of them were straight reissues of Trans-World albums. After Somerset/Stereo Fidelity, Miller was involved with two other budget labels Alshire and Sutton. The Sales Manager was Joe Martin and Miller handled A&R. Somerset was a budget label whose albums listed for sale for $1.98, when most albums sold for $3.98 in the ‘50s and ‘60s. A subsidiary label was Stereo Fidelity, the only difference between the two labels was that the monaural record was a Somerset and the stereo record was on the Stereo Fidelity label. The numbers were the same. Main Series Canadian LP’s in this series did not use the last two zeros, for example SF-12700 was SF-127, leading to endless confusion about the Somerset release numbers.     BEAR FAMILY RECORDS TEL +49 (4748) 8216-16 • FAX +49 (4748) 8216-20 • E-MAIL [email protected] Town Hall Party Die 'Town Hall Party' gehörte Anfang 1952 zu den ersten Country Music Shows, die im amerikanischen Fernsehen ausgestrahlt wurden und lief dort bis zum Beginn des Jahres 1961. Sie kam jeden Samstag aus einem Theater in Compton, einem Vorort von Los Angeles. Die Bühne war hergerichtet wie eine alte Scheune – dies sollte dieselbe Stimmung vermitteln, die schon drei Jahr- zehnte zuvor bei den Live-Shows vorherrschte, die über den Hörfunk gesendet worden waren. Obwohl sich Nashville sehr schnell als das kommerzielle Zentrum der Country Music etabliert hatte, gab es auch an der ameri- kanischen Westküste ein gewaltiges Fan-Potential für eine Show wie diese. In dieser Region lebten seit den 30er Jahren viele Men- schen, die es aus der Dust Bowl dorthin verschlagen hatte – während des Zweiten Weltkriegs kamen zusätzlich viele Arbeiter hinzu, die Jobs in den Munitions- und Waffenfabriken suchten. Sie alle liebten Country Music, und folglich entwickelte sich eine völlig neue Szene mit einem eigenen Sound, neuen Künstlern, Clubs, Plattenlabels, Radio-Shows und natürlich auch passenden Fernsehprogrammen. Die 'Town Hall Party' wurde rund um einen hauseigenen Interpretenstamm entwickelt, der einem 'Who's Who' der Westküsten- Szene glich – mit Künstlern wie Joe Maphis, Merle Travis, Skeets McDonald, Johnny Bond und Tommy Duncan. Gastgeber waren Jay Stewart (er präsentierte später auch die TV-Quiz-Show 'Let's Make A Deal') und Tex Ritter. In die wöchentlich ausgestrahlte Show wurden stets auch hochkarätige Gäste eingeladen – und die kamen gern, denn die Show war ungemein populär und das permanent wichtiger werdende Fernsehen erwies sich als perfektes Medium, um sich als Künstler völlig neuen Zuschauerschichten vorstellen zu können.

Only acoustic, unamplified stringed instruments may be played. 5. Contestants may not use electronic pickups or contact microphones. 6. Sign-ups for each contest division will close 30 minutes prior to published start for that division. Drawing of numbers for playing order will take place 15 minutes prior to the published time for that division. Once drawing occurs, the division is closed. General Rules for Other Contests 1. Judges are sequestered. 2. Relatives of judges may not compete. 3. Contestants draw for order of appearance prior to each round. 4. Contestants must give their song list to the registration table prior to drawing for position. 5. Contestants may not trade playing positions. 6. Contestants may not register to compete once the drawing for playing position has started. 7. Contestants who are unready to play when called, at the judges’ discretion, receive zero points for that round. 8. Contestants are allowed only one instrument on stage. 9. Contestants may not repeat a song. 10. Contestants may not play a medley. 11. Contestants may not speak (or cough or laugh) near the microphone. A contestant who does so will, at the judges’ discretion, receive zero points for that round.

    west coast music Encore Please find attached the Encore Band song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need to have your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, F/D Dance, etc) FOUR WEEKS prior to your event so that we can confirm the band will be able to perform the song(s) and so that we have time to locate sheet music and audio of the song(s). In some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is needed, this gives us time to properly prepare the music. Clients are not obligated to submit a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and/or avoided. If you desire the highest degree of control (asking the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we would ask for a minimum 80 requests from the band’s songlist.
