The wonderful warm weather and those big, blue skies seemed to go on for ever. However, there’s no doubt now that things have changed and the season is turning. As I write, the bright blue sky has given way to grey as the rain pitter- patters on my window. Warm woollies and raincoats have been dusted down, and all around us the glorious green of summer is giving way to the browns, reds and yellows of autumn. While I enjoy the summer, I also enjoy this time of year. Those changing colours which are all around us, the fruit on the trees and those fallen leaves crunching underfoot, are a reminder that human life is marked by change as much as it is by constancy. And as the light summer days give way to the darkness of winter that is coming, we are reminded, too, of our own mortality and the transient nature of this earthly life. Our church calendar is a big help here, since at the beginning of this month we keep the festivals of All Saints and All Souls. All Saints is a day when, as a church, we remember that great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us; the saints whose lives are an example and an inspiration to us as we try to live out our vocation as disciples of Jesus Christ in our time, just as they did in theirs.

    Bolingbroke Deanery GG rraappeeVViinnee APRIL 2014 ISSUE 454 Our Resource is the Gospel, and our aim is simple; “To secure a growing, worshipping, celebrating, proclaiming and caring Christian presence in each community of our Deanery.” 50p 1 Bishop’s Letter As I write, many of you will currently be attending Lent groups as part of the Diocesan Lent course this year, entitled ‘Faith at Work’. ‘Faith at Work’ is a clever title: it encapsulates our calling to live out our faith in whatever context we find ourselves – at work, home, school, church, etc. – and it also reminds us that faith itself is constantly ‘at work’ within us. As we go through life, each one of us is living out our calling to be a disciple of Jesus wherever God has set us. Thus our faith is informed by our life’s journey. But the converse is also true: that journey as the people of God is informed by our faith, and so we can truly say that our faith is ‘at work’ within us. While this holds true throughout our lives, Easter brings it into sharp relief. The desolation of Good Friday and the absolute finality that it suggests are so enormous that they can leave us feeling cut off and adrift. A fissure is created, a gap opened up between what we thought we knew to be true and the place in which we now find ourselves. It is when that kind of disjuncture happens that our faith really gets to work within us as we ask the questions about where the journey of faith is taking us, and what it is asking of each one of us.

    Advisory Visit River Lymn, Lincolnshire December 2015 1.0 Introduction This report is the output of a site visit undertaken by Tim Jacklin of the Wild Trout Trust to the River Lymn, near Spilsby, Lincolnshire, on 8th December, 2015. Comments in this report are based on observations on the day of the site visit. Normal convention is applied throughout the report with respect to bank identification, i.e. the banks are designated left hand bank (LHB) or right hand bank (RHB) whilst looking downstream. Specific locations are identified using the Ordnance Survey National Grid Reference (NGR) system, for example, Snipe Dales Country Park (TF 33095 68255). 2.0 Catchment / Fishery Overview The River Lymn rises in the rolling landscape of the southern Lincolnshire Wolds near Salmonby, south of Tetford. It flows in a south-easterly direction to the north of Spilsby, leaving the Wolds around Halton Holegate and entering a flat, fenland landscape, where it becomes known as the Steeping River. The lower reaches of the river are canalised and regulated, down to its estuary at Gibraltar Point, south of Skegness. An unnamed tributary of the River Lymn rises in Snipe Dales near Winceby, south of Hagworthingham, and flows east to join the Lymn at Sausthorpe Bridge (TF 37832 68682). A 6-km reach of this tributary, from Sausthorpe Bridge to Snipe Dales, was the subject of the majority of this walkover survey. A 1.5-km reach of the River Lymn between Aswardby Bridge (TF 37409 69461) and downstream of Sausthorpe Bridge was also inspected (Figure 1). Natural England’s National Character Area Prolife for the Lincolnshire Wolds states: The landscape of the Wolds is strongly influenced by the underlying geology and the later glacial action that reshaped it.
