The Swiss Boomerang Federation

Proposes to host the

Frédéric Declercq 2009 European Boomerang Championship

in

Marc Schwyzer , Introduction

Dear Boomerang Friends,

After Payerne in 1999, the Swiss Boomerang Federation proposes to host the 2009 European Boomerang Championship in Lausanne and Bière.

Lausanne will be the main location of the tournament. The field of the University, on the border of the Lake of , offers particularly good weather conditions and a perfect quality of grass. Five world records were broken in Lausanne over the last seven editions of the tournament. Lausanne is a sportive city, and hosts the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee.

Bière will be the place to compete the Long-Distance tournament. Bière is a large Swiss Army center with enormous flat fields. It is about 30 minutes away from Lausanne.

After having organized several tournaments with over sixty participants, with exceptional throwing conditions and performances, we are now motivated to host a large international event: the 2009 European Boomerang Championship in Lausanne

A doubt however remains concerning the field. We haven’t the confirmation yet to get the fields but we will get the final answer in early September 2007. This is not very likely, but it could imply that another solution (another country?) would be required.

Lausanne will be a first class European Boomerang Championship!!!

The tournament in Lausanne occurs since 1999. Since 2003, it is the official Swiss Boomerang Championship.

Weather conditions in Lausanne have always been very good over the last 7 editions. The only exception was in 2005 where the last event had to be canceled due to sudden and very strong wind. Best scores and records of the previous editions illustrate this:

Vaud State of Switzerland, showing Geneva, Lausanne and Bière The Field

The field is located in Dorigny, Lausanne, and is a part of the “Université de Lausanne“. The quality of the field is near to perfect: dense grass and flat surface.

The main field is situated at the east of the site, while the secondary field, usually reserved for trick-catching, is at west, directly on the border of the “Lac Léman” (Lake of Geneva).

Unfortunately, it is only possible to trace one Aussie-round circle. However we’ve had more than 60 throwers on this field without any problem. The solution was to run trick-catching in parallel with Aussie-Round. By starting earlier than we used to, we expect to host at least 80 people.

Our proposition to prevent major injustices among top throwers is to calculate the ranking after 3 or 4 events. Then we will keep the best throwers in the same groups. This should remove the random part due to changing weather conditions, especially when a group is throwing aussie-round while the other one is throwing trick-catching.

Long Distance

The long distance tournament cannot be held in Lausanne. The Swiss Army fields in Bière are flat and large enough to host the Long Distance tournament. Bière is about 30 minutes away from Lausanne.

Usually, lodging was always situated on the campus of the University, close to the field and close to the restaurant. These are large dormitories and they have the advantage of being free.

This solution, among many others, will be considered. We would like to find a more comfortable place where all throwers could stay together. Conditions are a reasonable price and the proximity of the field.

However free lodging at the dormitories will be available as a cheap alternative, and nice campings are also in proximity of the field:
