3.12 Bridford

3.12.1 Part 3 Bridford is a small village lying on the west side of the Teign valley between to the south and to the north. It has a modest range of facilities including a shop (within the pub) and a visiting mobile post office service. Its primary school needs are met by schools at Christow, Dunsford and .

3.12.2 A parish plan was first published in 2005 and updated in 2011. The parish plan indicates little that could not be accommodated within the general policies of the Local Development Framework (LDF). The need for additional residential off-street car parking is highlighted; and clearly the provision of a local shop would be a bonus for the village.

Conserving the quality of the built environment 3.12.3 In the past, the village grew on the returns from granite working and lead and barytes mining, along with farming. It is a village of unpretentious buildings of a variety of types, ages and styles. As such, it represents a typical example of the vernacular.

Housing 3.12.4 In the recent past, the village hosted a sizeable development of 16 homes at Bridford Barton Farm, which included four affordable dwellings for local needs. Any further housing development at Bridford should be very small scale to support needs arising locally.

3.12.5 There are no specific policies or proposals for this settlement. The policies in the Core Strategy and the general policies of this document will be sufficient for development management purposes.
