EXETER LIVESTOCK CENTRE 01392 251261 [email protected] www.kivells.com Monday 10TH August 60 PRIME CATTLE & BARREN COWS Auctioneer: Simon Alford 07789 980203 Prime Cattle to 234ppk and £1535 Barren Cows to 178ppk and £1150 No let-up in the beef trade with both finished cattle and cull stock selling to the recent strong trade once again. Prime cattle reached creditable a high of 234ppk given for a smart home bred 606kg Limousin heifer from Tom and Hannah Wotton of Moretonhampstead which realised £1415 whilst cracking others from the same sellers came in at 233ppk and £1478 for a 636kg Limousin steer and their heavyweight 740kg Charolais bullock sold for 208ppk and grossed a massive £1535. Neat 500kg British Blue heifers from Phillip Dennis and family, North Tawton at only 17 months sold well and to 226ppk and £1158 as did Blonde bred cattle from Bottor Rock Farms, Hennock with a 670kg steer reaching 221ppk and £1477 and a 652kg heifer rising to 214ppk and £1392. Aberdeen Angus prime in demand once again with heifers to 208ppk and £1166 for Nick and Margaret Lugger of Modbury and 207ppk and £1215 for Robert and William Reddaway of South Tawton. David Slade, Chagford saw Simmental heifers to 200ppk and £1177 whilst well turned out 620kg Devon bullocks from Adrian Pike of Nymet Rowland reached 191ppk and levelled out just short of £1200. The better of several decent ‘Over Thirty Month’ prime cattle were headed by David Saunders of Belstone with a 600kg Charolais steer at 188ppk (£1128) with other overage continental cross bred steers realising £1199 and £1191 for David Harris of Kingsbridge and Robert and Christine Steer of Avonwick respectively. Perhaps not the quality entry of barren cows we have become accustom to over recent weeks although we did top a 178ppk for the second week running with a cracking 648kg red Limousin barrener from Stephen Voysey of Longdown which realised £1150 with his others to 169ppk and £1011. More red Limousin cows from Gerald Vallance, Ashburton reached 149ppk and £1108 whilst terrific Hereford cows from Joe Richardson, Kingsbridge fetched to 160ppk and South Devon’s saw 143ppk and £1078 for Luke Knight of Fluxton. Strong Devon cows from Colleton Barton, Chulmleigh drew 129ppk and £943 and Aberdeen Angus sold to 128ppk for Martin Daw of Ugborough.
