The Himmelstreppe trains, comprising nine electric low floor units and four panorama coaches, have been operating on a daily basis on the Mariazellerbahn since 2013. Each Himmelstreppe accommodates up to 127 passengers in modern and fully air-conditioned carriages. Summer and winter configurations ensure that the low floor units can be easily configured to accommodate either bikes or winter sports equipment.

Access for passengers with reduced mobility, as well as wheelchair accommodation is already provided at major stations and by support of the train attendant on board of each train. Each Trainset is equipped with a wheelchair accessible toilet. Other conveniences include double width doorways, comfort seats and electric outlets at each seat, as well as a state of the art passenger information system.

The Mariazellerbahn connects the regional capital St. Pölten with the Pielach valley on an hourly schedule with additional trains during the morning rush.
