Phillips Public Technical Services/Outreach (part time)

This position is for 20-25 hours per week (hours are flexible Monday-Friday, but must work one Saturday every other month during the winter). The position will also fill in additional hours when needed, but no more than 25 hours per week. Position will start as soon as possible. Starting wage of $14.00/hour.

Job Objectives: To prepare items for circulation through proper labeling, categorizing, packaging, and adding to the Library database. To offer immediate, friendly assistance to customers and assist with basic library services. The overall Library objective is to provide information and materials to any and all community members in a timely, accurate, and positive manner.

Essential Job Functions:

1) Prepares items to be added to the Library catalogue by adding labels and stamps, properly categorizing materials, and making any necessary changes to item packaging. 2) Adds items to the Library catalogue using the Library circulation system and the process outlined by the Library system. 3) Withdraws, repairs and reconditions library materials. 4) Receives and unpacks material deliveries. 5) Assists with development and ordering of materials. 6) Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials, registering customers, shelving materials, and collecting fees. 7) Assists with library programs, displays, and social media presence. 8) Responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly public space within the library building and grounds. 9) Contributes to a positive, team-oriented work environment by being helpful, respectful, and approachable to both staff and the public 10) Assists customers in locating and using library services and materials, including the library’s computer catalog. 11) Assists customers with mechanical operations of library equipment. 12) Assists with the annual Library sale. 13) Performs library opening and closing procedures. 14) Performs other duties as assigned.

Critical Skills/Expertise:

1) Exceedingly detail oriented with an ability to solve problems as they arise. ` 2) Ability to assist Library patrons with technology such as computers and copy machine as well as help troubleshoot/assist patrons with their devices such as cell phones, e-readers, or iPads. 3) Knowledge of current computer programs (Microsoft Office and Canva) and the ability to adequately manage online Library content on webpages and social media. 4) Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work. 5) Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers. 6) Good interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationship with the public, peers, and supervisors. 7) Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling. 8) Working knowledge of library methods and procedures. 9) Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling. 10) Working knowledge of library methods and procedures.

Requirements:

1) High school graduate or equivalent. 2) Some college preferred. 3) Flexible work hours and availability to work nights and weekends. 4) Keyboarding and general office experience.

ADA concerns The many facets of this position require that disabilities be of a partial nature. For example, the filing and shelving of materials may not be possible from a wheelchair. An employee must be able to perform tasks related to bending, lifting, and reaching. Also of concern is the ability to communicate with a wide range of staff and clients in person and by telephone. Adaptive technology may address some aspects of communication that would enable the employee to operate the Circulation Desk alone if necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, sit, use hands to finer, grasp, handle, fell or operate objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop and crouch.

The employee must lift 20-30 pounds on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. Employee must occasionally lift up to 30-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must be able to manipulate a loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds over carpeted floors.
