Brookings Public Library Policy Manual Continuously Reviewed and Approved by Brookings Public Library Board of Trustees BROOKINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT The Brookings Public Library will provide materials and information contributing to the education, recreation and quality of life for the community. The Brookings Public Library offers the same quality of service to all regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, educational background, disability, age, sex, or sexual orientation or gender identity or any other criteria. BROOKINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEE BYLAWS ARTICLE I - Name This organization shall be called "The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library" existing by virtue of the provisions of Chapter 14-2 of the South Dakota Codified Laws, 1975 revision and 1977 supplement, and exercising the powers and authority and assuming the responsibilities delegated to it under the said statute. ARTICLE II – Appointment of Trustees Section 2.03 of the Brookings City Charter requires that the Mayor shall appoint with the advice and consent of the City Council the members of citizen advisory boards, committees and commissions including the BPL Board of Trustees.1 A majority of the members shall be residents of the City. Members shall have a current library card in good standing. The City Clerk will post the call for BPL Board of Trustee applications and contact incumbents whose terms are expiring and inquire if they wish to be considered for reappointment. Normally only those who have filed applications will be considered for appointment. Trustees are encouraged to suggest that potential Board members apply. A book of filed applications is maintained by the City Clerk and will be available for review by the public. -

Highland City Library: Long-range Strategic Plan 2019-2022 Introduction Public libraries have long been an important aspect of American life. From the early days of the Republic, libraries were valued by Americans. Benjamin Franklin founded the first subscription library in Philadelphia in 1732 with fifty members to make books more available for citizens of the young nation. From that time to the present, public libraries have been valued because they allow equal access to information and educational resources regardless of social or economic status. Library service has long been important to the residents of Highland. From 1994 to 2001, residents of Highland and Alpine were served by a joint use facility at Mountain Ridge Junior High School. That arrangement was eventually terminated and in 2001 the entire library collection was relocated to the old Highland City building for storage. In 2008, Highland City built a new city hall and dedicated a portion of the building for a city Library. In 2016 the Library received permission to convert a public meeting room into a Children’s Room for the Library. The new Children’s Room was opened in spring of 2018. The Library joined the North Utah County Library Cooperative (NUCLC) April 1, 2012 as an associate member. NUCLC is a reciprocal borrowing system that allows library card holders from participating libraries to check out materials from other participating libraries. It is not a county library system. Each participating library maintains its own policies, budget, administration, non-resident fees, etc. In 2018 the Library reached the required collection size and was accepted as a full NUCLC member. -

With the ISSN 2161-6426 cancellation of ALA Annual 2020, LIRT’s many normal June activities are on hold. June 2020 Still, I’ve been impressed by your commitment to our Round Table and by just how much work we can still accomplish in a time of crisis. We might not be holding our Volume 42 LIRT Awards Reception this year, but the Awards Committee nevertheless selected No. 4 two incredible winners: Melissa Bowles-Terry for the Librarian Recognition Award and the Brooklyn Public Library for the Innovation in Instruction Award. We might not be holding a 2020 conference program, but the Conference Program Planning Committee has one amazing program lined up for Annual 2021, to discuss how librarians collaborate contents across library types to support patrons in moments of transition. Our standing committees might not be 1 ... From the President meeting in person this month, but members’ interest in 2 … From the Editor joining committees remains strong as ever. And although traveling to Chicago isn’t a possibility, the LIRT 3... Librarian Recognition Steering Committee will still be holding a virtual edition Award of its five-year planning retreat, to take stock of LIRT’s 4 .. -
Mcgoogan Health Sciences Library
McGoogan Health Sciences Library Fiscal Year 2019 / 2020 This past year was one of the strangest of my career, with the library closing while staff relocated to temporary space in Eppley Science Hall, followed by moving to remote work because of COVID-19. Despite these challenges, we had another successful year of accomplishments, welcoming new faculty and staff and maintaining seamless service during this time. I frequently comment on the value libraries bring to their campuses. I describe how our services and programs meet the university’s mission. This year, I want to focus on how the faculty and staff of the McGoogan Health Sciences Library create that value for UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, and our community partners. • Negotiating, licensing, and maintaining seamless access • Managing a platform for hosting UNMC-produced content, to the thousands of e-journals, ebooks, and databases you including a journal from the Graduate Medical Education office rely on every day • Working with users on 3D printing • Checking out our remaining print collections and anatomical • Providing Nebraska residents with consumer health information models. Our models are heavily used by several of our academic programs • Assisting academic departments, institutes, and centers in understanding the publication efforts of their faculty • Delivering articles, usually within 24 hours, for things the library does not own • Advocating for students by creating the best library for studying, reflection, and collaboration • Partnering with faculty on systematic reviews -

Methods: The accelerated strategic planning process was planned for summer 2015, to be completed by fall 2015. The process was facilitated by bright spot, a consulting group. Seven initial areas of focus for the library were determined: Library Value and Visibility, Teaching and Learning, Research Process, Information and Resource Access, Relationships Within the Library, and Space Effectiveness. Each area of focus was assigned to a working group of 6-8 library staff members. -

Developed in partnership with the state’s library community, the Vision 2020 Plan affirms the ongoing value of libraries and provides a clear vision of what excellent libraries should look like. The Plan offers models of success that may be emulated by libraries throughout New York, and makes 60 inter-related strategic recommendations for libraries, library systems, the New York State Library, and the Board of Regents. Several essential themes run through the Vision 2020 Plan. Foremost, there is a recognition that the state’s 7000 libraries matter very much to the people of New York: libraries represent communities and they empower individuals. Libraries are adapting very quickly to ever-changing technology, and have continued to employ both traditional and contemporary methods to sustain their institutional commitment to several core values shared by all types of libraries. -

Library Circulation Associate DESCRIPTION OF WORK General Statement of Duties: Part-time position with primary duties consisting of providing direct assistance to the public at the Circulation Desk. Also assists with carrying out Circulation Department operations, handling assigned tasks as well as general departmental functions. Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Head of Circulation Services and the Circulation Manager. Supervision Exercised: None. EXAMPLES OF WORK: 1. Greets patrons, listens to and understands a patron’s request, and accurately provides assistance or, if necessary, refers to the appropriate person or department. 2. Answers the telephone courteously, accurately answers questions, and refers calls to the appropriate person or department. 3. Checks items out to patrons, including items on hold and interlibrary loans. 4. Shelves materials and participates in shelf maintenance, shelf reading, and organizing materials. 5. Accepts payments for fines and fees and makes change quickly and accurately. Performs basic financial record keeping both on a computer and on paper. Assists with daily reconciliation of Circulation and Information Desk cash drawers as needed. 6. Checks in materials and handles items on hold, interlibrary loans, damaged materials, and items belonging to other libraries according to established procedures. 7. Ensures all of the circulation opening and closing procedures are completed. 8. Aids patrons with problem transactions and relays Library policies and procedures to the public as need arises. 9. Assists in training and providing guidance for Volunteers, Pages, and Circulation Associates. 10. Utilizes the Circulation module of the library management software to complete circulation tasks. 11. Assists patrons with utilizing the Library equipment and the online catalog. -

REPUBLIC OF PALAU Palau Public Library Five-Year State Plan 2020-2022 For submission to the Institute of Museum and Library Services Submitted by: Palau Public Library Ministry of Education Republic of Palau 96940 April 22, 2019 Palau Five-Year Plan 1 2020-2022 MISSION The Palau Public Library is to serve as a gateway for lifelong learning and easy access to a wide range of information resources and to ensure the residents of Palau will be successful, literate and resourceful in the Palauan society and the world. PALAU PUBLIC LIBRARY BACKGROUND The Palau Public Library (PPL), was established in 1964, comes under the Ministry of Education. It is the only public library in the Republic of Palau, with collections totaling more than 20,000. The library has three full-time staff, the Librarian, the Library Assistant, and the Library Aide/Bookmobile Operator. The mission of the PPL is to serve as a gateway to lifelong learning and easy access to a wide range of information resources to ensure the residents of Palau will be successful, literate, and resourceful in the Palauan society and world. The PPL strives to provide access to materials, information resources, and services for community residents of all ages for professional and personal development, enjoyment, and educational needs. In addition, the library provides access to EBSCOHost databases and links to open access sources of scholarly information. It seeks to promote easy access to a wide range of resources and information and to create activities and programs for all residents of Palau. The PPL serves as the library for Palau High School, the only public high school in the Republic of Palau.
