Published This typeface began with the question “If letters were magicked into 2021 existence, what would they look like?” The question led me down a bit of a rabbit hole but the conclusion was Avona and Avona Serif. Designed by Alanna Munro Avona Serif draws inspiration from Carolingian letter forms and aims to captured the calligraphic round, wide structure. The wide proportions Version are uncommon in the UI typeface landscape but are integral to it’s 1.0 ability to radiate fantasy vibes. When combined with Avona as the Formats display typeface, the two work together to create a visual feel of OTF, TTF, WOFF, WOFF2, something from a long ago time of magic while still appropriate and VA R I A B L E functional for current technology. I!rstreleasedabetaversioninlate2020whichincludedaverylimited character set. Avona Serif now includes extensive Latin Language support, numeral sets, fractions, and a curved diagonals alternate set. I am planning on adding small caps and italics at a later date.
