European Environment Foundation

7th International Convention of Environmental Laureates

“Special focus: Ecological FooDprint” The International Convention of Environmental Laureates, which is hosted by the European Environment Foundation, provides a platform for winners of prestigious international environmental prizes and awards. Laureates include active environmentalists, journalists and human rights activists, scientists, and entrepreneurs. Above all, they are doers, with one thing in common: They have a vision and goals, and they have found ways of implementing them. Every one of them has made a significant contribution in their field towards environmental protection. ICEL is the ideal opportunity for building a global network and #ICELfreiburg for mutual learning between the leading players and activists of the worldwide environment movement. With the exchange of experiences amongst each other the laureates become multipliers and creators of ideas and initiatives that can be successfully implemented in other areas around the world. Furthermore the Convention wants to disseminate ideas, initiatives and visions to young people and the interested public. Therefore it includes meetings and discussions between laureates and upcoming researchers, students and pupils, as well as various public events. Each year, ICEL has a special topic. In 2018, this is “Ecological FooDprint”.

Committed speakers on topics that matter Numerous people following the public lectures

European Environment Foundation - EEF

The foundation aims to build a community of environmental leaders and to promote dialogue among all disciplines of environmental policies on a global level.

Therefore, the EEF convenes winners of renowned international environmental awards to allow them to share and exchange experience, ideas and innovative solutions for the world's most pressing challenges. It furthermore reaches out to NGOs, associations, businesses and other stakeholders in the field of environmental and climate protection. Through this, the foundation aims to give incentives to initiate a politically supportive, confidence-building, collaborative, and research-stimulating exchange.

The main projects of the EEF are the “International Convention of Environmental Laureates – ICEL”, held annually since 2012 in Freiburg, Germany and the Online Platform EnviroNetwork.eu which was established in 2015 as a virtual meeting point for environmental laureates and other people working and caring for the environment. Under the umbrella of the EEF the environmental laureates adapted several declarations addressing current pressing problems, including the Rio+20 Declaration (2012), the Appeal to the world's foundations and philanthropists by the world's environmental prize winners (2014) or the Laureates Call to end repression against environmental defenders (2017).

The European Environment Foundation was founded in 2011 as a non-profit foundation under Swiss law. It is domiciled in Basel, Switzer- land.
