Christ Community Church – April 18, 2021 DOXOLOGY Praise , from Whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Thomas Ken, 1709. Tune: OLD HUNDREDTH, Louis Bourgeois’ Genevan , 1551

CHAIN BREAKER If you've been walking the same old road for miles and miles If you've been hearing the same old voice tell the same old lies If you're trying to fill the same old holes inside There's a better life - There's a better life

If you've got pain, He's a pain-taker - If you feel lost, He's a way-maker If you need freedom or saving, He's a prison-shaking Savior If you got chains, He's a chain-breaker

We've all searched for the light of day in the dead of night We've all found ourselves worn out from the same old fight We've all run to things we know just ain't right When there's a better life - There's a better life

If you believe it, if you receive it - If you can feel it, somebody testify (testify) (x2)

If you need freedom or saving, He's a prison-shaking Savior If you got chains, well He's a chain-breaker

CALL TO WORSHIP – Psalm 135:5-6, 13 For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all . 6 Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. 13 Your name, O Lord, endures forever, your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.

THIS IS MY FATHER’S WORLD This is my Father's world - And to my listening ears All nature sings, and round me rings - The music of the spheres This is my Father's world - I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees of skies and seas - His hand the wonders wrought

This is my Father's world - The birds, their carols raise The morning light, the lily white - Declare their Maker's praise This is my Father's world - He shines in all that's fair In the rust'ling grass I hear Him pass - He speaks to me ev'rywhere

This is my Father's world - Oh let me ne'er forget That though the wrong seems oft’ so strong - God is the Ruler yet This is my Father's world - The battle is not done Who died shall be satisfied - And earth and Heaven be one

TREMBLE Peace, bring it all to peace, the storms surrounding me Let it break at Your name

Still, call the sea to still, the rage in me to still Every wave at Your name

Jesus, Jesus, You make the darkness tremble - Jesus, Jesus You silence fear Jesus, Jesus, You make the darkness tremble - Jesus, Jesus

Breathe, call these bones to live, call these lungs to sing Once again I will praise

Your name is a light that the shadows can't deny - Your name cannot be overcome Your name is alive, forever lifted high - Your name cannot be overcome

CONFESSION – Psalm 51:1-10 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the heart. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

ASSURANCE – Philippians 3:7-11 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

OFFERING PRAYER

SPOTLIGHT – Psalm 133:1 - Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

NEARER MY GOD TO THEE Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee - E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me Still all my song shall be nearer my God to Thee - Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down - Darkness be over me, my rest a stone Yet in my dreams I'd be nearer my God to Thee - Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee

There let the way appear steps unto heav'n - All that Thou sendest me in mercy giv'n to beckon me nearer my God to Thee - Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee

Then with my waking tho'ts bright with Thy praise - Out of my stony griefs Bethel I'll raise So, by my woes to be nearer my God to Thee - Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee

Or if on joyful wing cleaving the sky – Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I fly Still all my song shall be nearer my God to Thee - Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee

SERMON TEXT – Genesis 33:1-15 And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two female servants. 2 And he put the servants with their children in front, then Leah with her children, and Rachel and Joseph last of all. 3 He himself went on before them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

4 But Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. 5 And when Esau lifted up his eyes and saw the women and children, he said, “Who are these with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.” 6 Then the servants drew near, they and their children, and bowed down. 7 Leah likewise and her children drew near and bowed down. And last Joseph and Rachel drew near, and they bowed down. 8 Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company that I met?” Jacob answered, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.” 9 But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.” 10 Jacob said, “No, please, if I have found favor in your sight, then accept my present from my hand. For I have seen your face, which is like seeing the face of God, and you have accepted me. 11 Please accept my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” Thus he urged him, and he took it.

12 Then Esau said, “Let us journey on our way, and I will go ahead of you.” 13 But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are frail, and that the nursing flocks and herds are a care to me. If they are driven hard for one day, all the flocks will die. 14 Let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will lead on slowly, at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.”

15 So Esau said, “Let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”

SERMON NOTES

PROFESSION – The We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who, for us and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who, with the Father and the Son together, is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. .

COME TO JESUS Weak and wounded sinner, lost and left to die - O raise your head for Love is passin' by Come to Jesus, come to Jesus, come to Jesus and live

Now your burden's lifted and carried far away - And precious blood has washed away the stain So sing to Jesus, sing to Jesus, sing to Jesus and live

Like a newborn baby, don't be afraid to crawl - Remember when we walk, sometimes we fall So fall on Jesus, fall on Jesus, fall on Jesus and live

Sometimes the way is lonely and steep and filled with pain - So if your sky is dark and pours the rain Then cry to Jesus, cry to Jesus, cry to Jesus and live

O and when the love spills over, and music fills the night - And when you can't contain your joy inside Then dance for Jesus, dance for Jesus, dance for Jesus and live

And with your final heartbeat kiss the world good-bye - Then go in peace and laugh on glory's side And fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus and live And fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus and live
