Day 4 Venice – Padua Breakfast at the hotel. Boat transfer to Venice airport to get your car, rented for 5 days. Driving to Padua take the local road along the Brenta river to see the beautiful villas aligned along the river. Then stop at Villa Pisani in Stra for a visit. The villa is quite similar to the Versailles castle, with fountains, large buildings and a huge Italian garden with its famous maze. Get to the hotel in Padua and check-in. Time at leisure to visit the city on your own. Padua is a journey into the past, amongst ancient history, traditions and art. The Palazzo della Ragione and Loggia dei Carraresi, the Scrovegni Chapel, with its precious frescoes of Giotto. It is a walk among magnificent old buildings and the spirituality of its churches: the Basilica di Sant’Antonio, Santa Giustina, the Duomo. Enjoy the city markets of Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta, the grandeur of Prato della Valle and the millenary porticos. Today we suggest a drive through the countryside from Padua to the villages of Pedemontana Vicentina, a beautiful countryside with many Venetian villas designed by the famous architect Andrea Palladio, rural villages and churches that still stand rich of history and culture. Do not forget the food & wine products! The Sopressa salami, the Grappa from Bassano, Marostica cherries are just some delicacies. Interesting is the visit at the Museo del Maglio in Breganze, recounting the world of blacksmiths with historical records from 1635. In the afternoon spend few hours in Vicenza, a World Heritage Site thanks to the 23 buildings in the historical centre and 16 villas in the province created by Andrea Palladio. Elle analyse principalement la chancellerie médiévale et moderne, alors que les archives étaient conservées et gardées par des institutions chargées de 1’administration publique, puis le travail bureaucratique et historiographique exécuté aux 19e et 20e siècles. À cette époque, de nouvelles méthodes de gestion, adoptées par les états créés par Napoléon et s’appliquant aux archives courantes, ont également influencé la conservation des archives historiques. Cet article montre comment une ville italienne a conservé sa mémoire administrative et a créé une institution spécifique afin de préserver et d’étudier ses documents historiques. ABSTRACT This research describes the record-keeping systems of Padua’s municipal administration from the 13th to the 20th centuries, i.e., by free commune, Carraresis’ seigniory, public servants of the Republic of Venice, and local administration in the context of the State before and after the national unification (1861, but for Veneto and Padua 1866). The focus is on the analysis of the medieval and modern chancellery, while archives were preserved and kept by corporate bodies charged with public administration, and afterwards bureaucratic and historiographical work carried out in the 19th and the 20th centuries.

Throughout the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the two powers often clashed in open hostilities. This antagonism between the cities lasted for ten generations, and has been compared to the earlier rivalry between Rome and Carthage. Like the struggle between the two ancient powers, the Venetian/Gcnoan hatred stemmed from their competitive relationship in maritime trade. Unlike land-based rivals, sea powers cannot be separated by any natural boundary or agree to observe any territorial spheres of influence. Trade with the Levant, a source of great wealth and prosperity for each of the cities, required Venice and Genoa to come into repeated conflict in ports such as Chios, Lajazzo, Acre, and Tyre.

First and foremost I desire to thank the cavaliere Gaetano da Re, of the Biblioteca Comunale at Verona, who, during my two visits to Verona, in 1904 and 1906, placed at my disposal the treasures both of the library and of his learning with the most generous kindness, and since then has settled more than one difficult point. From the other officials of this library, and those of the other libraries I visited, the Biblioteca Capitolare at Verona, the Biblioteca Marciana and the Archivio di Stato (in the Frari) at Venice, and the Archivio Gonzaga at Mantua, I met with the same unfailing and courteous assistance. Descrizione. La cinta muraria attuale di Montagnana è il frutto di un ampliamento della fortificazione ad opera dei Carraresi, iniziato a partire dal 1340. Il perimetro difensivo si sviluppa entro una serie cadenzata di ventiquattro torricini pentagonali, collegati tra loro dal relativo cammino di ronda. La Porta occidentale, in direzione della città di Legnago, detta “Rocca degli Alberi”, risale al medesimo periodo di riordino difensivo operato dai Carraresi. Porta Vicenza, invece, o “Porta Nuova”, è l’esito della trasformazione di una delle torri in porta di accesso alla città. Munita di ponte e antemurale difensivo fungeva da collegamento tra i borghi esterni e il sistema difensivo interno. Lo stato di conservazione di Porta Legnago presenta elementi di criticità nel sistema di merlature sommitale, anche se i pesanti interventi strutturali realizzati nel mastio, attorno agli anni Sessanta, ne hanno assicurato l’efficienza statica. In generale tutta la struttura presenta vari livelli di degrado causato sia dagli agenti atmosferici, sia da azione meccanica dovuta agli urti del transito veicolare, pur regolamentato nell’accesso alla Porta.

    The history of ceramics Italy ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ LEONARDO DA VINCI Pottery, meant as an expression of art, is part of the human beings’ story since 35.000 years. Its developments faithfully show and explain evolution of religious and cultural behaviours and of socio-economical and commercial affairs of Italy. From the first to the third century In Italy the origins of ceramics date back to the I century, undergoing the influence of Etruscan and Roman cultures. We are speaking about rudimentary techniques, named “technique of black figures” and “technique of red figures”, characterised by the presence of silhouettes on the rim of pots. Fictile proofs of these products were founded in the Northern part of Italy (in Este, Padova, Vicenza, Montebelluna, Altino, Adria and Adriano Polesine were discovered numerous necropolises giving back a large sample of ceramic pots and utensils and so on. In Arezzo, between the end of the I and the beginning of the III century p.c. there was the best production of a Roman ceramic type named “sealed earth”. Productions belonging to this category are characterized by a quite polished surface with a typical coral colour. Shapes were obtained through an earthenware mould; the name “sealed earth” really rises from the use of this mould that was called “sigillum”, while executing sleaves were called “sigillatores”. From the fourth to the fifth century During this period a new technique - named “engobe” – appeared, foreshadowing the coming of majolica. The surface of engobe products was covered by a white coat, decorated with graffito designs or painted with brown or green colours.

    «Coloro che corrono a Verona il drappo verde» il palio come strumento politico, tra Signorie e città venete Nicola Martellozzo All’origine del famoso palio rinascimentale dei barberi esiste, durante il Basso Medioevo, una pratica ludica diffusa nell’Italia centro-settentrionale: il palio di cavalli “scossi”. Lo scopo di questo contributo è di evidenziare il profondo legame nella regione veneta tra questi palii cittadini e le alterne fortune delle Signorie tra XIII e XV secolo. Verona, Vicenza e Padova costituiscono una tripletta solidale, accomunate tra loro dalle imprese politiche di dinastie signorili (da Romano, Estensi, Carraresi, della Scala) che di volta in volta hanno governato, conquistato e liberato le città venete. In particolare, concentreremo la nostra analisi intorno a due fuochi: la dinastia dei da Romano e la città di Verona, legati insieme alla prima attestazione storica del palio in quest’area (1207). Le vicende di Ezzelino II e III da Romano sono emblematiche della doppia accezione che il palio cittadino assume nei confronti del potere politico: da una parte, strumento di governo della Signoria, come espressione di potere e prestigio; dall’altra, una modalità propria del popolo di festeggiare la fine di un dominio sofferto, un potere oppressivo. Il caso dei da Romano è interessante anche per mappare le relazioni con altre Signorie che, in misura minore, hanno governato la regione e celebrato (o subito) il palio. La città di Verona rappresenta un nodo centrale di questa mappa: i suoi statuti comunali attestano uno dei primi palii in assoluto, mentre sotto gli Scaligeri, che succedono a Ezzelino III al governo della città, entra in conflitto con Firenze e subisce un palio d’assedio (1338), variante toscana del palio cittadino.
