Abstract This paper analyses possible interpretations of the unbuilt Leonardo's project for the tiburio of the Milan cathedral, depicted in two sheets of the Codex Atlanticus, using digital tools, mainly 3D modelling techniques. Starting from existing studies and hypothetical reconstructions of Leonardo’s project, exploiting only analogue methods (i.e. 2D drawing techniques), new in- depth analyses are presented. In detail the use of 3D modelling allows a systematic analysis of the possible solutions for the ability to easily reconstruct the plan of each solution investigated starting from the section represented by Leonardo in the Codex Atlanticus. Results lead to multiple interpretative solutions of this complex architecture. Keywords Leonardo da Vinci, Tiburio, Cathedral, Milan, Unbuilt architecture, Virtual reconstruction, 3D modeling. 1. • A Comparative Analysis of Acoustic Energy Models for Churches
A comparative analysis of acoustic energy models for churches ͒ Umberto Berardi,a Ettore Cirillo, and Francesco Martellotta Dipartimento di Architettura e Urbanistica, Politecnico di Bari, via Orabona 4, I70125 Bari, Italy ͑Received 3 February 2009; revised 17 July 2009; accepted 24 July 2009͒ Different models to improve prediction of energy-based acoustic parameters in churches have been proposed by different researchers ͓E. Cirillo and F. Martellotta, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 118, 232–248 ͑2005͒; T. Zamarreño et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 121, 234–250 ͑2006͔͒. They all suggested variations to the “revised” theory proposed by Barron and Lee ͓J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 84, 618–628 ͑1988͔͒, starting from experimental observations. The present paper compares these models and attempts to generalize their use taking advantage of the measurements carried out in 24 Italian churches differing in style, typology, and location. The whole sample of churches was divided into two groups. The first was used to fine-tune existing models, with particular reference to the “␮ model,” which was originally tested only on Mudejar-Gothic churches. Correlations between model parameters and major typological and architectural factors were found, leading to a classification that greatly simplifies parameter choice. Finally, the reliability of each model was verified on the rest of the sample, showing that acoustic parameters can be predicted with reasonable accuracy provided that one of the specifically modified theories is used. The results show that the model requiring more input parameters performs slightly better than the other which, conversely, is simpler to apply. © 2009 Acoustical Society of America. ͓DOI: 10.1121/1.3205398͔ PACS number͑s͒: 43.55.Br, 43.55.Gx ͓NX͔ Pages: 1838–1849 I.

  • Galeazzo Arconati, Il Codice Atlantico Di Leonardo E La Biblioteca Ambrosiana
«Regio animo».

2 Sesto Rondò VIA O VIA MAZZ SEMP ION E F IUM E SE A VIA Comasina A. • Last Supper for King Francis I; a Masterpiece in Gold and Silk
Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper for King Francis I; a masterpiece in gold and silk CHÂTEAU DU CLOS LUCÉ PARC LEONARDO DA VINCI Exhibition from 7th June to 8th September 2019 THE VATICAN MUSEUMS THUS PAY TRIBUTE TO LEONARDO’S GENIUS An historic loan from the Vatican Museums Barbara Jatta, Director of the Vatican Museums The Vatican Museums are taking part in the fifth-centenary celebrations of Leonardo da Vinci’s death during 2019 with various initiatives. This exhibition on the precious Vatican tapestry of The Last Supper at the Château de Clos Lucé in Amboise is perhaps the most representative of these but also of the multifaceted activities carried out today in the Vatican Museums, encompassing research, restoration and collaboration with various institutions at a range of levels. The papal museums thus pay tribute to Leonardo’s genius. It was a pleasure and an honour to enter into contact with the French institutions and thus resume a relationship that dates back to 1533, when the renowned tapestry, sumptuously woven in silk with silver and gold thread and a border of crimson velvet, was presented to Clement VII by François I of France on the occasion of the marriage of his son and heir Henry of Valois and the Pope’s niece Catherine de’ Medici. The ceremony was performed by Clement VII himself with all due pomp in Marseille in the autumn of 1533. The tapestry, whose origin and provenance have been the object of hypotheses and conjectures, is still so shrouded in mystery that it has even proved impossible to identify the workshop involved.

On public view again from 27 March 2019 Il Raffaello dell’Ambrosiana. In principio il Cartone now completely restored Raphael, Preparatory cartoon for the School of Athens © Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Mondadori Portfolio After four years of intense work, the restoration of Raphael’s Preparatory Cartoon for the School of Athens, at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan, is now complete. The project for its restoration and enhancement and its new display, in which the work will be set, will be presented to the city and international public on 27 March 2019 at the exhibition ‘Il Raffaello dell’Ambrosiana. In Principio il Cartone’. Fondazione Fiera Milano, official partner of the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana for the two-year period 2018-2019, will contribute to supporting promotional activities for Raphael’s Cartoon, completely restored, as well as the enhancement of the Institution's Leonardo patrimony during the celebrations for the 5th centenary of the Florentine genius’s death. This is the largest Renaissance cartoon to have come down to us (it measures 285 x 804 cm) and was completely hand-drawn by Raphael (Urbino, 1483 - Rome, 1520) as a life-size preparatory drawing of the School of Athens, one of the four frescoes commissioned from Raphael in 1508 by Pope Julius II to decorate the Stanza della Segnatura at the Vatican. Although the work is known as the School of Athens, the correct title is Philosophy: the four walls of the Stanza della Segnatura depict – in keeping with a complex iconographic programme – Philosophy, Theology (Disputation of the Holy Sacrament), Jurisprudence (The Virtues) and Poetry (Parnassus).
