Dates of Children’s Speech and Language Drop-in Clinics September-December (Autumn) 2017

Drop-In Clinics

Drop-In Clinics are for children who are over 2 years 6 months of age and under 4 years 6 months. Children of Reception age will be seen as part of the school-based service. If your child is under 2 years 6 months, please speak to your Health Visitor and local Children’s Centre. They will be able to provide you with advice and support concerning early communication development, and give you some helpful ways of encouraging your child’s talking at home.

Please be aware that we do not carry out assessments of eating and drinking at Drop In clinics and we would not see a child who is currently receiving support from the service.

What to expect at a Drop-In clinic?

· When you arrive, your name will be added to a list. Clinics operate on a first come….first served basis. You may have to wait to be seen depending on how busy it is. Whilst waiting to be seen there will be forms to be completed.

· You may be seen for up to 20 minutes by one of the Speech and Language Therapy team

· You will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns with a member of the team and your child’s communication will be observed through play and/or informal assessment

It is possible that if it is very busy you may be asked to come back to another Drop-In Clinic. If you arrive less than 15 minutes before the end of the session, you may not be seen due to time constraints.

What should I bring?

· If an adult other than you is bringing your child, please ensure they bring written consent from the person with parental responsibility (e.g. Mother, Father, persons named on birth certificate, or social worker)

· Any other relevant professional reports e.g. Paediatrician, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, other Speech Therapy reports, etc.

If your Child is under 2 years 6 months please speak to your Health Visitor and local children’s Centres. They will be able to provide you with advice and support for early communication development.
