  • Oliver Dowden CBE MP End of Term Report
Oliver Dowden CBE MP End of Term Report It has been a busy start to 2016, with lots going on both in Parliament and in the constituency. I was pleased to receive positive comments from so many of you following my Christmas newsletter, so here is my Easter update. On transport, I have campaigned on: reliability, cost and for train station improvements. Unfortunately, since the start of 2016 we have not seen an improvement in the reliability of the Thameslink service. I therefore raised my concerns directly with the Rail Minister in Parliament. I will be holding a public meeting in the Council Chamber in Borehamwood at 7:30pm on 31st March. This represents a great opportunity for hard pressed commuters to raise their concerns directly with Govia representatives. Please email [email protected] if you would like to attend. On cost, I have met with representatives from London Midland to discuss the possibility of Bushey station being re-zoned. I followed up this meeting by making a formal submission to the West Coast Mainline Service consultation. I have continued my campaign for Oyster PAYG to be extended to Radlett and Potters Bar. I have raised the matter with the Rail Minister. In relation to Radlett, I believe that Oyster will be extended but this is proving to be a complex process. In relation to Potters Bar I am now working with Grant Shapps MP to press the case for extension of the service on this line. I have raised with the Rail Minister the need for increased investment at Borehamwood station.

BOROUGH PROFILE BOROUGH PROFILE SEPTEMBER 2017 SEPTEMBER 2017 1 Borough Profile Overview Hertsmere is located in the south-west of Hertfordshire abutting north-west London. Despite its proximity to Greater London, the 10,116 hectares borough remains largely rural and almost 80% of the land is designated Green Belt. The borough has five main settlements including: Borehamwood, Bushey, Potters Bar, Radlett and Shenley, with other villages and smaller settlements dispersed throughout the rest of the district. Hertsmere is very much a gateway to the county. This is reflected in the name given to the borough when it was created in 1974, combining ‘Herts’ a common abbreviation of Hertfordshire, with ‘mere’, an old word for a boundary. Hertsmere is not a single town or place and when Hertsmere was formed, it combined parts of Bushey and Potters Bar Urban Districts with Elstree and Watford Rural Districts. Population in Hertsmere The population currently stands at 103,000, which has risen by almost 13,000 between the censuses of 1981 and the most recent projections, made in 2015. The rate of population increase for Hertsmere (14.3%) is comparable with the rest of the UK (15.4%) but slightly less than average for the Southwest Herts sub-region (17.2%). 30 June 2016 Hertfordshire Public Health Profile Borehamwood and Hertsmere Health Needs Assessment FINAL DRAFT Purpose This report provides an overview of the health needs of Borehamwood to help inform the commissioning of health services by NHS Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group (HVCCG). It also gives consideration to the health of the wider Hertsmere district for context. This health needs assessment (HNA) is a comparative and epidemiological assessment that has made use of available local health and population data sources. Given the short time frame this HNA has not been able to seek the views of stakeholders (such as professionals, patients, etc.) in its development. Whilst further work needs to be conducted, including stakeholder engagement, this report provides the initial context in which these issues can be explored. Authors This profile was created by James Barber (Graduate Management Trainee), with input from Claire Tiffany (Senior Public Health Analyst), David Conrad (Public Health Consultant) and Miranda Sutters (Public Health Consultant). www.hertfordshire.gov.uk 1 [email protected] Hertfordshire Public Health Profile – Borehamwood and Hertsmere HNA 30 June 2016 Contents Geography .................................................................................................................................................................... 3 Summary of findings and conclusions ....................................................................................................................
