Comunidad de Bellavista, bajo rio Apaporis. 2015 RESUMEN El propósito de esta disertación es analizar los desdoblamientos de la autonomía territorial de los pueblos indígenas tanimuca, letuama, macuna, yauna, cabiyari y yujup del bajo Apaporis reunidos en la Asociación de Capitanes Indígenas del Yaigojé Apaporis – ACIYA-, como consecuencia de sobreponer un área protegida al territorio de su resguardo indígena para proteger su territorio y su cultura del desarrollo de un proyecto minero a gran escala, dando origen al actual Parque Nacional Natural Yaigojé Apaporis, localizado en la región fronteriza entre Colombia y Brasil en el noroeste amazónico. Partiendo de un ejercicio etnográfico en las comunidades de Bellavista y Bocas del Pirá y del análisis y participación en los espacios interculturales de co-manejo constituidos para la gestión compartida del área, el autor busca analizar las respuestas políticas de estos pueblos indígenas frente a las políticas de desarrollo minero a gran escala y conservación ambiental, que se transforman en desafíos para el ejercicio de la autonomía territorial indígena. RESUMO O propósito da pesquisa foi analisar os desdobramentos da autonomía territorial dos povos indígenas tanimuca, letuama, macuna, yauna, cabiyari e yujup do baixo rio Apaporis reunidos na Asociación de Capitanes Indígenas del Yaigoje – Bajo Apaporis - ACIYA-, como consequência da sobreposição de uma área protegida sobre o seu território de resguardo indígena, com o intuito de proteger o seu território e a sua cultura de um projeto de mineração de grande porte, dando origem ao atual Parque Nacional Natural Yaigojé Apaporis, localizado na região fronteiriça entre a Colômbia e o Brasil, no noroeste amazônico. Partindo de uma prática etnográfica na comunidade multiétnica de Bellavista com um segmento maioritario de indígenas yairimara (tanimucas), e da análise e participação em espaços de intermediação intercultural constituídos para a gestão compartilhada da área, procuro analisar as respostas políticas dos indígenas perante políticas de desenvolvimento mineiro de grão calado e no campo da conservação ambiental, espaços de disputa que se transformam em desafios para o exerciso da autonomia indígena. Palavras chaves: povos indígenas; autonomia; política ambiental – amazônia; ouro – mineração e mineiro; Parque Nacional Natural Yaigojé Apaporis ABSTRACT The purpose of this research work is to analyze the unfolding of the territorial autonomy of the indigenous groups Tanimuca, Letuama, Macuna, Yauna, Cabiyari and Yujup from the region of the Low Apaporis river, who belong to the Asociación de Capitanes Indígenas del Yaigojé Apaporis -ACIYA-, resulted as a consequence of their decision to superimpose a protected area on their indigenous reservations to protect their territory and culture from a large scale mining project; thus, creating the current National Natural Park called the Yaigojé Apaporis, located on the border region between Colombia and Brazil on the Amazonian Northwest. Through an ethnographic exercise in the Bellavista Community with a majority group of Yairimara (Tanimucas) indigenous people and the analysis and participation in the intercultural spaces of co-management created for the protected area, the author to analyze the political responses of these indigenous people towards the policies of large scale mining development and environmental conservation, which are the current challenges to their indigenous

Assembling States: Community Formation And The meE rgence Of The Inca Empire Abstract This dissertation investigates the processes through which the Inca state emerged in the south-central Andes, ca. 1400 CE in Cusco, Peru, an area that was to become the political center of the largest indigenous empire in the Western hemisphere. Many approaches to this topic over the past several decades have framed state formation in a social evolutionary framework, a perspective that has come under increasing critique in recent years. I argue that theoretical attempts to overcome these problems have been ultimately confounded, and in order to resolve these contradictions, an ontological shift is needed. I adopt a relational perspective towards approaching the emergence of the Inca state – in particular, that of assemblage theory. Treating states and other complex social entities as assemblages means understanding them as open-ended and historically individuated phenomena, emerging from centuries or millennia of sociopolitical, cultural, and material engagements with the human and non-human world, and constituted over the longue durée.

Located in the Tarapacá Valley of northern Chile, the site of Tarapacá Viejo underwent significant architectural remodeling when the valley was incorporated into the Inka empire in the XV century AD. This article examines (1) how Tarapacá Viejo fit into the overall network of Inka or Inka-influenced sites in northern Chile; (2) how the construction techniques and architectural layout were transformed upon conquest of the valley by the Inka; and (3) what changes and continuities characterized the Early Colonial period (AD 1,532-1,700) occupation of the site.

    This volume brings together a corpus of scholars whose work collectively represents a significant advancement in the study of prehistoric ethnicity in the Andean region. The assembled research represents an outstanding collection of theoretical and methodological approaches, and conveys recent discoveries in several subfields of prehistoric Andean anthropology, including spatial archaeology, mortuary archaeology, textile studies, ceramic analysis, and biological anthropology. Many of the authors in this volume apply novel research techniques, while others wield more established approaches in original ways. Although the research presented in this volume has occurred in the Andean region, many of the novel methods applied will be applicable to other geographic regions, and it is hoped that this research will stimulate others to pursue future innovative work in the prehistoric study of ethnic identification. Theaters of Power: Inka Imperial Performance Abstract Military and police power has proven time and again to be necessary but not sufficient to create and maintain an empire. Empires must employ a multitude of strategies to expand and survive, one of the most important of which is state-sanctioned public spectacles, ceremonies, and rituals. This dissertation examines the roles of these large-scale non-quotidian performances that are organized and directed by political agents, occur generally at specified times and locations, and include elements of the spectacular, theatricality, cosmological invocation, and feasting. These, state-sanctioned public spectacles, ceremonies, and rituals, have received inadequate attention from archaeologists. Archaeologists traditionally focused on the development of administrative and economic systems, ignoring the roles of performances in imperial expansion, which have often been considered epiphenomenal. My own research has focused on one of these empires, the Inka, and how it grew from a small single valley in Peru to a powerful polity ranging north to Ecuador and Colombia, south to Chile and Argentina, and east to Bolivia and Paraguay.
