  • Changes in Carabid Communities Along the Urbanization Gradient in Pyongyang (North Korea)
Muzeul Olteniei Craiova. Oltenia. Studii şi comunicări. Ştiinţele Naturii. Tom. 27, No. 1/2011 ISSN 1454-6914 CHANGES IN CARABID COMMUNITIES ALONG THE URBANIZATION GRADIENT IN PYONGYANG (NORTH KOREA) ŠUSTEK Zbyšek Abstract. The Carabids were pitfall trapped and individually collected in Pyongyang in 8 sites along the urbanization gradient from city margin to its centre in September – November 1986 and June – July 1990. Altogether 51 species were recorded, representing 14.7% of the species known to occur in Korea. The communities consisted exclusively of middle and small species (up to 20 mm). There was not found any species of the genus Carabus. Absence of non-flying species probably also results from very intensive agricultural exploitation of Pyongyang surrounding. Most species belonged to the genera Amara and Harpalus, characteristic also in Korean conditions for fields and orchards. The humid climate was reflected by the occurrence of several species of the genus Chlaenius even in the very city centre. Urbanisation gradient was manifested by decline on number of species, individuals and diversity index and by increase in relative representation of Transpalaearctic species Dolichus halensis, Pseudoophonus tardus and Ansisodactylus signatus. There can be defined some pairs or groups of vicariant species taking the same position in the (peri)urban ecosystems in East Asia and Europe: Platynus magnus x Platynus assimilis, Nebria coreica x Nebria brecollis. Pseudoophonus sinicus + P. simplicidens + P. coreanus + P. jureceki x P. calceatus, Curtonotus nitens x Curtonotus aulicus. Generally, the rules of forming the carabid communities in urban conditions in both parts of Palaearctis are very similar. Keywords: Carabids, communities, urban fauna, Pyongyang, North Korea.

Dalum area (located in Gijang-gun, Busan, Korea) for our survey, particularly The pine wilt disease zone and the non-permanent control area. This study investigates the effect of pine wilt disease on the distribution of beetle species in the process of ecosystem change due to insect control; pine forests treated for pine wilt disease were divided into insect control and non-control sites, respectively. The results of this study are as follows. Twen tyseven species belongs to 12 families were identified from 969 ground beetles collected from this sites. Species richness was the highest in Coleoptera (6 species, 469 individuals). In the control site, 21 species belongs to 10 families were identified from 228 individuals, while 24 species of 11 families from 533 individuals in the non-control area. The highest number of species were noted in June and July from the non- control and control sites, respectively. The highest number of insects in control and non-control sites was observed in July, while the lowest in September.

Crisicum 4. pp.431. _______________________________________________________________________________ A Dél-Tiszántúl annotált állattani bibliográfiájának alapvetése Kalivoda Béla Abstrackt Establishing the basis of the Annotated Zoological Bibliography of the South-Tiszántúl: The goal of this work was to initiate to collect the publications of the zoological data of the South- Tiszántúl (South-East Hungary, see on the maplet) namely the activity area of the Körös-Maros National Park Directorate. During the assembly of the bibliography my principal was the collection of zoological data. So the work contains publications of more or less accurate occurrence data. For the better usages sake the bibliography is annotated. Its items are provided with a code composed from the name of author(s), year of publishing and, if it is necessary, an additional letter code. Annotations contains these codes providing possibility of query by animal species, taxon and location of data.

1 CHANGES IN CARABID (COLEOPTERA: CARABIDAE) ASSEMBLAGES AND DIVERSITY PATTERNS BETWEEN 1997 AND 2014 IN A DESALINIZED, INTENSIVELY CULTIVATED AGRICULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF NORTHERN CHINA XIN ZHANG College of Agricultural Resources and Environmental Sciences, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100094, China College of Architecture and Art, Hebei University of Architecture, Zhangjiakou 075000, China PANLONG WU,YUNHUI LIU, YIN HAN, XUZHU ZHANG, PIAOPIAO DAI, ZHENRONG YU College of Agricultural Resources and Environmental Sciences, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100094, China [email protected] AND JAN C. AXMACHER UCL Department of Geography, University College London, London, UK 2 ABSTRACT Reclamation of salinity-affected land for intensive agricultural production represents a highly promising pathway towards feeding our increasing global population. Nonetheless, biodiversity and ecosystem service responses to agricultural intensification in desalinized landscapes remain poorly understood. In our study, we analyzed long-term diversity responses of carabids as important pest control agents to agricultural intensification in desalinized landscapes by comparing data from 1997 and 2014, and we analyzed the potential role of field- margins as beetle refuge habitats. Despite agricultural intensification, carabid species richness increased significantly following desalinization, with this increase being chiefly limited to field margins. Carabid assemblages also showed a dramatic temporal species turnover, leading towards a species-rich homogeneous
